Intel is poised to take on VIA’s mini ITX motherboards with its upcoming Little Valley D201GLY, which is part of its Intel Desktop Board Essential Series. The new D201GLY is the first Intel branded motherboard to feature a SiS chipset instead of previously used ATI chipsets. The upcoming Intel D201GLY motherboard is an all-in-one solution with an integrated processor, similar to VIA’s EPIA series. It features the SiS662 north bridge paired with the SiS964L south bridge. The SiS662 features integrated SiS Mirage 1 graphics. The integrated graphics core (not Vista Premium ready) is AGP8x-based and features hardware accelerated DVD decoding.

Intel integrates a Yonah-based Celeron processor on the D201GLY. The integrated processor is a Celeron 215 in a BGA 479 package. Intel clocks the Celeron 215 at 1.33 GHz on a 533 MHz front-side bus. It also has 512KB of L2 cache. Despite being Yonah-based, the Celeron 215 is a single-core processor. Other notable features of the Intel D201GLY include DDR2-533/400 MHz memory support, one PCI slot, 10/100 Ethernet, six USB 2.0 ports and optional S-Video output. Expect Intel to release the D201GLY with the integrated Celeron 215 in the end-of-May or early-June timeframe.

SiS chipset? Single core? 1.33 GHz? APG? 512 L2 cache? WEAK!

Maybe it's just not for you.

Well yeah, it's weak. It's Mini-ITX. What were you expecting? A Quad-core behemoth of massive processing proportions?

Looks like it would be GREAT for a teeny-tiny Media Centre PC, what with the DVD decoding and all. Computers barely bigger than their drives FTW!

Nah, let's call it a "PC Special Olympics Participant" That's much more insulting.

Oh yeah, has anyone forgotten -- including Intel -- where BTX went...and now they are trying another form factor again; do they ever learn?!

dominating 99% of the OEM market? it's not easy to bet a new PC that isn't BTX anymore... that isn't AMD.. that is prebuilt

I think more compeition in the market could only be a good thing. Although I dont see anything new and amazing about this intel.

Mini ITX is really cool for computers that dont need to be fast. Even so 1.3ghz with DDR2 ram isn't that slow.

I use a mini ITX computer for my home server and occasionally as a media center. It's small, quite, cool (as in heat) and runs off a 60w power supply. They're great!

Wonder how many SATA sockets this thing will have, looking for a low power cpu & mb combo to build a NAS/MP3 server at home.
