The Razer DeathAdder, the newest mouse from the famous Razer line of gaming mice is here and I review it for you. How does this mouse stack up? Is it good for some Counter-Strike: Source loving? Is it good enough to throw down some headshots against noobs in Counter-Strike: Source? Will I ask anymore questions here?

Please note, this review was actually ready to post 8 hours ago (as it says now) but we were having some technical issues getting it up. All is fixed now and it should all work okie dokie for you guys.

Please be gentle, this is my first written review in almost 4 years now!

Good news because my current mx518 feels like a "Death Subtracter"...

Eh, my 518 is still kicking ass. Most comfortable mouse I've ever used. This DeathAdder mouse seems too small and too ambidextrous or whatever you call it. My hand is kinda big so I guess that's why I like the 518. It doesn't kill my wrist.

The new G5 rev. 2 would be a great upgrade for you. Logitech returned the forward button that they originally took for for the 1st G5.

Nice review!

Although I prefer the Logitech G5 mouse, this would easily be my second choice.

I have a deathadder and i love it. the feet on the bottom are horrible and scratches the bottom of the mouse easily without a mouse pad.
#6.1 vetLOC on 16 May 2007 - 11:27
See, I would never even think of using a mouse without a pad, even though technically with optical and laser mice you can use them without a pad....I just never would. I didn't even think to use it without a pad come to think of it, and I just tried it and it didn't really do anything to the bottom of the mouse :|

Maybe your desk/table/whatever is like, some evil material of doom?!

Probably. My Copperhead, running with no pad on my plastic-vynl desk runs very nicely on it. Bit noisy than what reviews tell, but meh. Just turn up the volume!

Then again, I have been using this desk as a mat for my previous optical mouse which worn it down quite smoothly over the years, and the Copperhead has continued to do so.

Omg we are on Digg... whats next Snyper telling good jokes? Snyper being nice? WW3? The Universe Imploding? Ahhhhh my brain hurts from all the permutations...
#7.1 vetLOC on 16 May 2007 - 11:26
Well I figured why not, plus the review will hopefully be posted on a few other big sites like Voodoo Extreme and Bluesnews and maybe HardOCP.

Got another review lined up here as soon as my new rig gets here and I can actually use the product

Wow did we really need THAT many click-throughs to get to the actual review? Whats this now? Evil Avatar(they're famous for it, its how they get their big webhit nubmers).
#8.1 vetLOC on 16 May 2007 - 11:48
It couldn't be helped actually. That Continue Reading is needed for the main page, otherwise nothing would show up for the article on the main page. And then there is the continue to the article thing, which, speaks for itself. Sorry if the extra click annoyed you :|

Well I'm going to be brutally honest... I read the review. The whole review, not just segments... and it sounds like a really great mouse it really does. However, and you probably knew this was coming It looks very, well... plastic-y. It looks like there's no real feel to the mouse about from cold hard plastic.

Then there's the other point about it being a wired mouse. Now debate reaches both sides when it comes to wired / wireless for gaming, but it's been out for so long now, that the majority of people actually trust a wireless device for their enjoyment. This should have been listed on the negative side in my opinion.

Although I use Logitech myself, I do not have a problem with Razer at all. Hell, I even bought a mouse mat for £17.99 from them that is apparently the bees knees. Well... it looks and feels it too. Well worth the money, but alas... I have still yet to use it more than 6 months on because of the sheer size of the beast. I need to buy a bigger desk!

All in all, not a bad review but it wouldn't make me go out and buy one... but that is down to Razer's policy on wiring their latest mice.
#9.1 vetLOC on 16 May 2007 - 12:13
Actually, I thought about discussing the whole wired/wireless issue, but frankly for a 2 or even 3 page review of a mouse (that I didn't even expect to have to write up, in an hour no less) I left it out since that discussion can literally get its own article alone.

Needless to say however, I've found that some wirelesss mice are not quite as precise still as wired mice, but again it all comes down to personal opinion on that one I think.

As for the feel of the mouse and the plastic look, well it doesn't quite look plastic-y really, the matte on top absorbs light and looks sorta like rubber-ish. And it totally doesn't feel cold or slippery or anything like that.
#10 Harreh on 16 May 2007 - 13:44
I prefer the Razer Copperhead, myself.

I wish they had color choices for the lighting-up part.
#11.1 vetLOC on 16 May 2007 - 19:24
I wouldn't mind a different color selection myself, but blue just seems to fit don't you think?

There are only a few companies out there that even cater to the average “hardcore” PC gamer these days.

There are average gamers.
There are also hardcore gamers.

So who are these "average hardcore" gamers that you are speaking of? I notice that hardcore is in inverted commas which suggests that the author implies some other meaning, but I don't really understand it (the meaning).
#12.1 vetLOC on 16 May 2007 - 19:27
The average gamer is one that plays casual games, will once in a blue moon load up an FPS or some other genre, but usually stays within a set of games that are considered "casual"

A "hardcore" gamer is someone such as myself, who will play anything, especially FPS/action games, MMO's or RTS games, Flight sims etc, someone who wants precise controls, and good products to play with.

An average gamer more than likely will not care if the mouse they use lights up blue, or has a 1800dpi infrared laser thingie. A hardcore gamer buys that sort of stuff.

There was no other meaning implied there, hardcore was in quotes because it was a statement, since there are "casual" gamers and "hardcore" gamers (and other subsets if you will, ie: normal etc)

Fair enough, but to me, an adjective such as "hardcore" or "average" used before "gamer" always meant something in regards to the skill, not the types of games played or amount of time spent playing.

If it's revolving around skill, then it's 'pro gamer'. Could also be considered a hardcore gamer.

True, but I didn't want to label "hardcore" gamers as pro, simply because I was a competitive CS player for awhile, and I hated being called pro, I'd much rather be called hardcore

Essentially this is the same mouse they released months ago as the Microsoft Habu, but with less features and the same pricetag. Seems pretty pointless to get this with the other better choices out there.
#13.1 vetLOC on 16 May 2007 - 20:01
I'm pretty sure the DeathAdder and Habu came out nearly at the same time. Besides, the Habu was essentially made to replace the Copperhead if I remember correctly. Plus, the Habu was made for low sensitivity or glide style play, so if you were a flick shotter, you would stay with the Copperhead or even the DeathAdder.

But yes, this is essentially the same mouse as the Habu, usually cheaper. The only real difference is that the Habu has a 2000dpi infrared sensor.
#13.2 Harreh on 16 May 2007 - 23:07
I was thinking 'Wasn't this a MS product aswell?' when I first read this.

Sounds like a contradiction there .

Logitech G5 ftw

I have to be honest, but a good review will require more time.

i think the review sucks, but if it's your first review ever i guess you did a good job for a beginner.
#16.1 vetLOC on 17 May 2007 - 04:50
Well, thanks I think....

Could you possibly elaborate why the review sucks? And while this isn't my first written review, it is the first one I've done in nearly 4 years. As I said I literally wrote this in under an hour with a major rush job. Not exactly the best circumstance to write a review :|

You spent to much time talking about how it looks, i.e the lights and so forth, then how it performs, in gaming and desktop productivity.

Well desktop productivity wouldn't have been given much talk time regardless, but yes I could have discussed gaming performance more. As I said this review was written rather quickly, and I had only really played CSS with it. The review was required "now" and I had to write it as such.

Razor Copperhead is the best Razer mouse, more sensitive, more options, right & left handed, better looking. Review that one.
#17.1 vetLOC on 17 May 2007 - 17:54
I wasn't sent the Copperhead though
