Brimax 19" TFT Flat Panel Display Review

A new review of yet another monitor. There are many displays out there to choose from and only few really appeal to gamers and workstation pimps: for gamers looks as well as performance comes into play though the workstation pimps don't mind a little trade off and will go for ultimate style to match their working envoirment. The LM19XD from Brimax has both qualities. Be sure to check out the review for our conclusion.

never heard of them actually...

why the **** is this on the front page? this is no-way important enough to deserve a place on the front page
#2.1 bmaher on 26 May 2007 - 21:19
dont start that off again - this all kicked off last time :p

I guess they want more reviews on Neowin. It doesnt hurt, does it? If you dont like it, don't read it.

But his isn't a neowin articles, its offsite hosted on another server.
#2.3 excalpius on 27 May 2007 - 21:00
Agreed. If they want reviews, add another tab that we can choose to go to. This isn't newsworthy, especially as it comes from an off site shill shite.

Now, being ON TOPIC, the Samsung 226bw is 22" WS and has a 2ms refresh. It is the first and only LCD I have found that it suitable for high speed (re: NO GHOSTING) FPS gameplay. It's only about $325 USD right now, and you can find them everywhere, so if you ARE looking for a gaming LCD, I highly recommend you add this one to your list of units to evaluate and consider.

Whoop de do?
#4 RAID 0 on 26 May 2007 - 21:29
That looks clean. It's hard to judge a monitor from pictures. We all don't have the same eyes, so it's hard to take the word of someone else. I'd have to see it in person.

700:1 contrast ratio, 8 ms? The specs alone don't sound very impressive
#5.1 HawkMan on 26 May 2007 - 23:23
less than 8 ms is pointless though, a true 8ms monitors wont' have ghosting, and less than 8ms you are sacrificng color quality for an imaginary responce time difference.

700:1 contrast though, yeah hardly impressive, but to me bnrimax sounds like the usual "no-name" manufacturers selling 2nd/3rd sorting panels from the factories withtheir name on.
#5.2 excalpius on 27 May 2007 - 21:12
Hawkman, please accept the fact that thou art wrong here.

Those of us who play fast FPS games (quake 3 etc) need faster than 8 ms period. I see ghosting on 5/6 ms units, which is why I mentioned the Samsung 226bw above, since its 2 ms refresh was the first LCD I have ever used that had NO ghosting in ANY game at ANY speed. I also found it did not suffer any frame lag when compared to my CRT, so this was a winner in my book (and now, on my desk).

In part this may be due to the fact that the "ms" quoted by manufacturers might be any number of different settings, and thus may not be representative of actual realworld experience. It's a scam we should all be whining about.

He's just spamming his own site...

Checking all author's submissions:
http://www.neowin.net/index.php?pid=178317

Rings a bell of the same site?

And then on his site:

How the heck did this make it to the front page?
(1 reply) #7 LTD on 26 May 2007 - 22:18
This is enough baloney to make a sandwich.

Well, spam, actually . . . to make a . . . spam sandwich.

Anyway, it's luncheon meat all over the place.

mmm spam sandwich.

Oh, this reminds me... I have to brush up on my LCD monitor specs, as I hope to get one soon.

It should be fairly obvious why this is on the front page to those of you who are paying attention. Needless to say it is on the front page, and if some of you cannot deal with that, then just don't read the story or his article. Not much else to say on the matter really.

Sorry if it bothers some of you, or seems like spam, but trust me when I say it is not spam. And it won't be the last time you see one of his articles posted to read
#8.1 LTD on 27 May 2007 - 04:27
Maybe Neowin should take the obvious displeasure of its users seriously, instead of adopting this "if you don't like it, tough!" attitude.

A good start would be to avoid posting non-news related spam in this area.

Did you seriously think this would be acceptable???
#8.2 vetLOC on 27 May 2007 - 08:19
Obvious displeasure?

I'm sorry, except for a few of you who are having trouble "dealing" with this, I don't see much of a problem from most of you guys at all.

So let me get this straight now, because tech-gear.org helps us in getting products for review, and we on occasion post one of their hardware reviews (whether said review is "good enough" or not) in return, this is unacceptable??? Give me a break already, frankly I find it fairly humorous that some of you are making such a big deal over this issue. It isn't even an issue - plenty of sites develop working relationships with other sites and do this sort of thing all the time.

Most people won't voice their opinion. That's why you should consider the few that speak out.

So the Neowin administration should lose out on a partnership that affords us some (finally) hardware to play with and review because the site we partner with doesn't agree with a small minority of Neowin's users?
#8.5 excalpius on 27 May 2007 - 21:05
No, what we're saying is "this looks like a pretty obvious shill/spam/techpimp review and we'd like to see you be a little more discretionary/classy in the future."

For example, reviewing the Samsung 226bw for gaming would be a name brand product (that is now selling like hotcakes btw) to review. Posting spam about some off-brand, too small, "who gives a crap?" product makes you look like you are selling out.

Or something like that...

PS Don't shoot us for caring too much about your (usually) excellent work.
(1 reply) #9 Guyro on 26 May 2007 - 22:41
^^care to point out the obvious LOC?
#9.1 vetLOC on 26 May 2007 - 22:43
Yeah, read my Razer DeathAdder review, then the obvious will jump out and bite you
(2 replies) #10 Samboini on 26 May 2007 - 23:04
Front page news? No way.

Edit: After reading the review, I strongly question it's integrity. It is vehemently biased and states that the average specs of the monitor are mind-blowing; and i'm not even getting started on the excruciatingly painful language used.

Trash.
#10.1 +chconline on 26 May 2007 - 23:25
QFT

Read all the other reviews lol, everything gets 5/5 and some sort of award.
#10.2 excalpius on 27 May 2007 - 21:13
the specs are crap.
the "review" is spam.
the site is a shill/pimp.

LAME
(3 replies) #11 Express on 26 May 2007 - 23:09
This is not much of a review.
What about red, blue, green, cyan, magneta color rendering at slight vertical or horizontal angles etc. etc.

^^The obvious conclusion is that some is getting a discount for putting the story here or there are some kickbacks involved.

Not every review can be as in depth as some of you might like, take my review for example. Then again, it was my first written review in years so eh.

But yes, we are getting discounts, we are all getting Alienware PC's for $19.95 and new Corvette's for $2.99 plus tax!

#11.2 Express on 26 May 2007 - 23:52
That is a great way to justify: "Look my review crap so here is more crap"

j/k Don't take it seriously.

We are not saying that every review has to be, just that to deserve a front page spot it should.
(3 replies) #12 Shane Pitman on 26 May 2007 - 23:22
For those who want to know, Tech Gear and Neowin have formed a partnership to provide hardware reviews to the community via both sites. If you don't want to read hardware reviews, it's very simple, don't click.
#12.1 Samboini on 26 May 2007 - 23:24
I've nothing against reviews on the front page as long as they are high calibre, unbiased and trustworthy.

Neowin need to release new subscription packages to get money...
This is just annoying...

They say this will appeal to gamers also. Even if you forget about the low specs for a minute, how can you ignore the fact that it's not a widescreen display?!
#17 LTD on 27 May 2007 - 04:28
LOL, pathetic.
(3 replies) #18 Computer Guru on 27 May 2007 - 05:58
So neowin is partenering with spammers who just violated the DMCA? Sweet!
#18.1 vetLOC on 27 May 2007 - 08:21
Someone mind pointing out this DMCA violation stuff, because I sure don't see anything of the sort anywhere on tech-gear.org?

Instead of the DMCA stuff, I now get:

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. "

Is it just me or does that tech-gear site look like a bad rip-off of the neowin homepage?
(3 replies) #20 Guyro on 27 May 2007 - 12:02
thankyou express
maybe instead of putting it on mainpage, you should create a new area called reviews like what we already have:main, software, gamers, forums etc.

There you go. Excellent idea.

I have a better idea. How bout a whining review section. Then we can allocate all the whining into one area. I'm sure all the whiners would get along.
#20.3 excalpius on 27 May 2007 - 21:07
Precisely. Put reviews on the reviews tab. Unless something is a first of its kind/ground-breaking product/tech, it doesn't belong on the main NEWS page IMHO.
#21 Guyro on 27 May 2007 - 18:24
how about u take my idea into consideration
