Top Secret Microsoft Product To Launch At Midnight?

It is very unusual for Microsoft that there hasn't been a leak yet, if we are to believe Gizmodo's story that Microsoft will announce a new product at 12:01am EST. The new hardware is supposed to come from the division of Microsoft that launched the Xbox and the Zune. It's "something totally new coming out of the Entertainment and Devices division, and it's going to change the way people interact with technology," according to an e-mail Gizmodo received mistakenly through “official channels”.

Mary Jo Foley is speculating that Microsoft’s “Milan” multi-touch and gestural interface technology is going to be put to use. Milan, the technology previously known as “PlayTable,” and, later, “Table,” allows users to navigate and manipulate data inside a browser or application using gestures. Currently, the Milan Project sits in Microsoft’s Mobile and Entertainment Division, which may be a hint that Microsoft might incorporate the Milan multi-touch capability into Zunes, Windows Mobile phones, Tablet PCs or Ultra-Mobile Personal Computers.

If it's true, it will be something to read up tomorrow morning / afternoon depending on how busy work will be.
Every tech site will have info on it by noon.

"Microsoft is set to demo the next version of Windows, Windows 2010 will replace the dated AREO interface with a superior command line structure. The mouse is a thing of the past and everything will be done in high-rez B&W. Microsoft has spent over 1 billion on research on this new interface and they can demo how a command line only interface will require less processor power and the system will boot in 7 seconds from power on."

LOL...this is funny but somehow it does feel like this is where we are going

Look up Windows Server 2008 Core Ed and tell me if you think that's a joke...

what ever it is, I think it's worth staying up till midnight!

I'm just wondering how there's no info about it.
It seems that everything microsoft does gets leaked out at least half a year before release

I am sure Gizmodo didnt receive the email mistakenly, it was sent from MS on purpose. Can't wait to see it, it sounds like it could be something good

Those of you who are going to stay awake until midnight: be sure to ask for your time back that you could have used sleeping, when this turns out to be a dud.

Go read Giz or Engadget. Its gonna be a $10,000 multi-touch light table.
#20.1 Nose Nuggets on 30 May 2007 - 00:55
why cant they just produce the software and the screen? why does it have to be the whole thing. i could build a computer that runs that for a grand or two (minus the screen).

But the screen is touch and pressure sensitive which is achieved through quite a few sensors. Its not even the computer, the hardware to make multi-touch even work is pretty sophisticated as it is....

I'm disappointed in advance.

This is such an anticlimactic event already, lol. Nearly everyone on this thread is about to fall asleep.

Midnight Pacific Time I assume. Too late for me. I'll read it in the morning.
#25 +Ely on 30 May 2007 - 01:49
hmmmm I'm curious but I don't have my hopes too high that it will be something so revolutionary, it it really was it at least some minor information would have leaked at this point IMHO.
#26 Mikee4fun on 30 May 2007 - 02:10
I would speculate it being a Zune phone with mutli touch simularities. It would be nice to see a windows mobile device with lots of storage.

BYE BYE WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Writer are the three core desktop products for Windows Live

But we have reason to suspect they’ll all be rebranded to one, large program - called “Windows Live Suite”.

Here are the reasons why we think it’ll happen…

1 -- All three programs are communication tools (IM, Blogs, e-Mail)
2 -- All three programs are being revamped to a new look (see Messenger 8.5)
3 -- All three programs are listed as one beta on Microsoft connect.

Perhaps we’re trying a wee bit too hard, but if this turns out to be the truth then either….

1. The consistency between products will create a usefull and effective solution for everybody….or, more likely…
2. It’ll create a mega-bloat product with more things to go wrong.

Either way, it looks like this could be a very interesting few months for Windows Live.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This has been in the talks on & off for a while, so much for waiting up till midnight. You never know, it might be mind blowing.

Have one on me.

But then again, I might be breaking the law by contributing to a minor.

I tried to follow their link to more information on this "Surface" product and was met with "Access Denied due to ACL on resource" - so I assume this press release was not meant to be up yet.
