In case you missed it, Google recently launched a new feature on its mapping service that allows people to see a 360-degree view of many streets in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, Las Vegas, Denver and Miami.
Immersive Media, one of the companies helping Google map out the world in 360-degrees, uses a pretty interesting device to achieve the goal. Don’t take this the wrong way though, Google isn’t relying on another company to do their dirty work. The web search giant also has its own vehicles, equipped with higher resolution cameras, taking snapshots of the streets in all their glory. Still, a disco ball with 11 individual lenses mounted on top of a Volkswagen Beetle is quite an interesting way to go about it, wouldn’t you say?
