Nvidia Corporation has recently unveiled its new mobile graphics chip aimed at high-performance laptops for computer enthusiasts. The new GeForce 8700M GT is a pre-overclocked version of the GeForce 8600M GT. Nvidia GeForce 8600M-/8700M-series graphics processors are based on the G84 graphics chips, which feature 32 stream processors, 16 texture modules, 8 raster operation units and a 128-bit memory controller. The new GeForce 8700M GT graphics processor is clocked at 625MHz/1250MHz (base clock/shader clock) and is designed to feature 1600MHz memory compared to its predecessor: GeForce 8600M GT featured 475MHz/950MHz clock-speeds and 1400MHz memory.

Nvidia GeForce 8-series graphics processing units support DirectX 10 as well as high-definition video playback accelerating technology. Mobile versions of the chips also feature power-saving capabilities. According to Nvidia, “The GeForce 8700M GT GPU, the newest and fastest GPU in the GeForce 8M series of notebook graphics processors, raises the bar for DirectX 10 graphics and video performance.” Nvidia indicated that GeForce 8700M GT GPU will be available in notebooks from numerous suppliers in North America, Europe, and Asia, including Toshiba, Sager, Prostar, Eurocom, Biohazard, Connoiseur, Cybersystem, Hypersonic, Malibal, Multirama, Rock, Evesham, Falcon Northwest, Plaisio, XS2, Nexoc, Hyrican, Vigor Gaming, Voodoo PC and others.

As an extra added bonus, if you turn the laptop over you can fry bacon on it.

What would be really nice is if they didn't suck up battery life, so that the laptops could really be mobile.

Hope to have a laptop with 8600M GT 512MB in my hands... well my brother's hands within the next week or two. He has had it on pre-order for a couple of weeks and should be shipping anytime soon. I don't imagine the power consumption could be any worse than the 7800 GTX GO in my Sager 5720 laptop.
