Looks like we finally have heard some news on when @live.com e-mail addresses will be released. Jacky Mok, another Product Manager for Windows Live in Toronto, has posted some information saying when they will be released, he says will be available "in the fall", along with "a rich family of products" around the same time.
According to the blog entry on livechronicles.spaces.live.com, there will be no migration of address names from current hotmail addresses, so if you have blank@hotmail.com, there's no guarantee you will get blank@live.cam. It's still on a first come, first served basis like every other e-mail services. Apparently country code addresses will only be available in countries outside the US, so that a Canadian will be able to get an @live.ca address, but not an @live.com one.

Me? I got about 6 or so at the time. One with the first name of each of my friends of which they all use the address now. Also got myself one and my brother. heh.
I'm glad they arent allowing migration. It's a stupid idea with no real purpose. If people have a really great hotmail name then that address may as well be retained. All it does is stop other users getting the addresses and leaves duplicates of email addresses. AFAIK the whole point was to increase the number of email accounts since everyone has to add random digits nowdays to get email accounts.
I guess I must be missing something.
The bigger deal I guess is since hotmails now about 10 years old its extremly hard to get anything thats half decent on the left hand side of that "@" character. What follows be it live, hotmail or whatever is less important really.

That's a bit stupid. .com is a global domain. The US should get @live.co.us/.us if people are restricted in what they can choose by their country =/
Companies anywhere in the world can register a .com domain becasue it's one of the original top-level domains, but since the US government is the organization that originated the .com domain, it remains the default domain of US-based commercial websites.

Because as everyone knows america is the centre of the universe, so they dont need their own domain.
I live in the UK and I've always gone for .com addresses. Not a fan of .co.uk really. It often causes confusion with other people when you're trying to give them your address. It's like, all my friends' email addresses are Hotmail.com. One or two have Hotmail.co.uk. But when I'm mass-adding them into my phone or organisier <b>manually</b>, it's very easy to miss those odd couple who should be .co.uk, not .com.
Of course if anyone is signing up for a Hotmail, MSN or Live account and you don't live in the U.S., it's easy to get a .com one, and not have to stick with .co.xx. There's always a loophole to make the Microsoft server think you're in the U.S. Language settings and all that. And as far as I'm concerned, there is no rule or condition stating that you're not allowed to do that. You should be able to have any extention you want, whereever you are. It's not like every person on this planet always stays in one country. Look at all those who fly around the world on business trips on a regular basis
