Russia shuts down Allofmp3.com

The music download website whose activities threatened to scupper Russia's entry into the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has been shut down.

The site, Allofmp3.com, was quietly closed as the Kremlin sought to end criticism from the United States that Russia was failing to clamp down on music and video piracy.

However, an alternative site run by the same Moscow company has already emerged. MediaServices says that mp3Sparks.com is legal under Russian law, using many of the same arguments advanced in support of allofmp3.com.

Customers found last week that allofmp3.com would not load on their computers, while others who went through its Russian web address were greeted by a message saying that it was closed "for maintenance". A former employee confirmed to The Times today that it had been shut down under pressure from the Russian authorities.

I've been trying to add funds on mp3sparks.com for months, Credit Card payments still are not available... There is no place to purchase songs encoded how you like them anymore. I always chose APE, lossless is the only way to go.

allofmp3 cannot be closed. it's works fully within laws. they can only close themself by appeal of federal executive authorities, who can offer them something significant for replacement. like some shares and/or posts in state companies, or approving some laws that was pushed by mediaservices owners etc etc. as of federal legislative power - mediaservices has got all support of the state duma. claims of usa was officially called as cries over market they have lost by not joining it in time.

Running a business in Russia consists of more than just complying with law (for instance, not being shot or poisoned). The company would no doubt fold from informal pressure from the Kremlin.

It's better not to say when you have zero knowledges about what are you saying. In this case your knowledges about Russia are complete zero. You have much more opportunity of being shotted for business in USA, then in Russia. Same about pressure. Your knowledges are limited by rusophobic stereotypes, which is very popular and widespread on west.

I'm finding it hard to summon up any sadness at the news.

What sadness? mp3sparks is allofmp3 but different name. And no downloader. But my allofmp3 account is here along with all my support requests and a little of my account left over. And woohoo, my Visa went thru =D That rocks. Better colors too. Not lets see if they are still paying ROMS or not.

Try allTunes...it's run by AllofMP3, and it's the same thing, except it uses a different program. I've been using it for the past year, and it works great. The program they've developed for it is a lot nicer than the AllofMP3 program.

You don't even have to register a new account, as it all connects to the same database.
