Logitech has just announced a new mouse and keyboard aimed once again at the gaming enthusiast. The Logitech G9 Laser Mouse (MSRP $99.99 U.S.) and the upgraded Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (MSRP $99.99 U.S.) are expected to be available in September.

"Logitech unveiled an upgrade to the popular Logitech® G15 Gaming Keyboard today – now with native support from the most popular games for its exclusive GamePanel™ LCD screen, a backlighted 160 by 43 pixel screen that gives gamers critical information to help them win.

With the corded G9 mouse, gamers can enjoy interchangeable grips, on-the-fly dpi switching ranging from 200 dpi to 3200 dpi, full-speed USB laser tracking, an onboard-memory profiling system, weight tuning, a custom-color LED and the hyper-fast MicroGear™ Precision Scroll Wheel, which was introduced last year and is exclusive to Logitech."

The G9 looks gross ... the new G15 looks pretty slick though. I like the orange colour.

That mouse looks like something The Borg use.

$99 for a mouse, looks to me like Logitech is trying to Squeeze somebody

I actually thought the keyboard with the orange keys and fat panel was as bad!
#2 ryoujikaji on 02 Aug 2007 - 23:58
liking the smaller g15 footprint, only wish it had usb 2.0 ports instead.

I would never pay 100 bucks for a mouse, especially one that ugly. I can pick up a generic optical mouse for five dollars and I bet it would work just as good.
#3.1 ThaCrip on 03 Aug 2007 - 07:29
i would probably not pay 100 for a mouth either ... but i have to overall disagree with you about the 5 dollar mouse comment... sure for very basic functionality that 5 dollar mouse might be fine... but at that price it's gotta be pretty cheap feeling.

i think around the 20 dollar area is about the minimum you can go to get a decent quality mouse that dont feel like junk.... plus if u ask me, a wireless mouse is a must cause after i went from a corded mouse to a cordless (Logitech MX700) i will never go back to a corded mouse again cause the feel of the ms700 is better than my previous microsoft one... and that damn cord gets annoying quick when your moving the mouse around playing games or just browsing the web or doing stuff where u use the mouse alot cause u can feel it and it's annoying.
#3.2 TRC on 03 Aug 2007 - 13:51
Yeah I was exaggerating a bit but really I have seen a few cheap optical mice that felt and worked as good (to me) as the more expensive ones. Anyway on to the cord I agree it is annoying when they are pulling on the mouse or getting hung on stuff. I have mine fixed though, the cord is supported at the back of my desk and has just enough slack not to pull back or get caught on anything as well as held up just slightly off the desk. I really can't tell it's there now.

I might actually end up buying the G15 now, depending on the price.

and the ugliest mouse award goes to...
(1 reply) #6 +Harlem39s Finest on 03 Aug 2007 - 01:13
very ugly, who needs 3200dpi ?!
#6.1 TRC on 03 Aug 2007 - 01:50
I agree, sounds like a marketing ploy.

That is THE ugliest mouse I've seen in a while.
#7.1 +Dakkaroth on 04 Aug 2007 - 20:22
Agreed.
#8 jesse on 03 Aug 2007 - 01:15
horrendous looking mouse...and do you really need a screen on your keyboard?

on the other hand, there dinovo edge keyboard is very sleek looking, love the modern look of it!

ewww. that's one fugly, expensive mouse... YUCK! remind me to barf when i go to the restroom

keyboard doesn;t look too bad. but i think the color on the letters suck. can it be changed? soemthing like purple-blue would look good. (if it's illuminated of course.)
#9.1 Steven on 03 Aug 2007 - 19:23
Buy the current version, it is blue backlit.
#10 virtorio on 03 Aug 2007 - 01:57
That mouse is some serious vermin.
#11 ambiance on 03 Aug 2007 - 02:09
I can't believe they signed off on that keyboard and mouse design; One looks like it was made for Jeremy Beadle, the other looks like a Jack-O-Lantern.

Who looks at their mouse? Your flippin' hand is over it and your eyes are on the monitor and/or elsewhere. It's about comfort and features. Let's not prejudge before reviews and actual products are on the store shelves. Some of the most expensive ergonomic computer chairs are also pretty ugly to some people. So what?
#12.1 TRC on 03 Aug 2007 - 04:00
My hand isn't always on it, and I don't want visitors laughing at my ugly mouse. Besides, to be honest it doesn't look comfortable either, and the features are mostly worthless technobabble. A mouse doesn't need a color LED, and why does anyone need a 3200dpi mouse? There is no way anyone would be able to tell the difference. I have a fairly old MX500 and it's as responsive as I could possibly perceive. For $99 this thing is just shameful. I really like Logitech too, this surprises me. I've noticed stuff made specifically for gamers is often a ripoff.

what you just said i think i gotta agree pretty strongly with.

cause i think after the MX500/700 generation there is probably not anything thats noticeable in real world conditions (give or take) ... cause i got a MX700 which is basically the same mouse u got but cordless. and im quite happy with it plus i like that it uses AA batts instead of built in crap that you cant replace when the batt goes dead like there newer mouses are.... i just cant live without a wireless mouse nowadays .. cause that cord on the mouse is quite annoying especially if your playing games.

i had my mouse since i think 2003-2004 area and it works perfect and i use it quite a bit to and im still on the same NI-MH batts that came with it!

plus i think anyone who spends 99 on a mouse deserves to be shot! lol ... plus i think your right anything made for gamers is probably overhyped and overpriced. lol... cause those "gamers" thing it will help them in there game when it aint going to do jack for them cause you gotta have great talent in the first place and if u got that the mouse dont really much matter once u got a decent quality mouse nothing else will help more.

So they updated the G15 keyboard with a new lcd screen and less G keys (18 down to 6).

Logitech please come out with a diNovo Edge combo thats comes with a mouse and diNovo Edge-ish media pad. And ditch bluetooth.
#13.1 +Smigit on 03 Aug 2007 - 05:47
How about an affordable diNovo while theyre at it. I'd love a keyboard like the edge but I'm not going to pay the asking price for one. If they could remove some of the functionality like that little mouse pad thing at the bottom right or whatever to get the price down a bit then I'd love to get one.

G9

Why couldn't they just update the mx518 with a 3G optical sensor, instead of THIS!
#14.1 Kuja on 03 Aug 2007 - 09:01
Agreed. They had a real winner with the whole 500/518/G5 series of mice, but this is just... ugh..
#14.2 recon13 on 03 Aug 2007 - 14:42
Agreed! The MX518 is such an awesome mouse, although it would be nice if they updated the sensor in it. With the MX518 and uberOptions instead of the regular SetPoint install, you really can't go wrong!

#16 Jugalator on 03 Aug 2007 - 07:35
Hmm... Isn't there a new version of the low latency cordless G7 with two thumb buttons instead of one and a middle mouse button that doesn't interfer too much with the left tilt? :-/

That mouse is technically awesome (although it would be great if the battery life could be improved a little), but the designer must have had an aneurysm.

You guys are such tools. Putting design before functionality and performance.
"I don't want my friends to laugh about my mouse." Priceless
#17.1 MrCobra on 03 Aug 2007 - 13:24
I don't care how functional it is. If it looks nasty I'm not going to be using it and it does look nasty.
#17.2 TRC on 03 Aug 2007 - 13:55
Hey I was joking about that part, no need for name calling.

They are too busy laughing at my keyboard anyway; it's a 1989 Zenith full sized AT. Yeah it might look old but to me types better than any of the cheap rubber dome garbage they put out these days and will certainly outlast them all. See, I do put functionality ahead of looks, even though I personally think my keyboard looks awesome. You have to admit though...that is one ugly mouse.
#18 clx on 03 Aug 2007 - 08:08
i have the orig G15, and i must say it does need updating, its not that comfortable and the key spacing isnt quiet right
#19 Nicholas-c on 03 Aug 2007 - 09:56
the new G15 looks erm "eww" i love my one
#20 JOEWARE on 03 Aug 2007 - 10:55
Logitech makes ugly mice. their keyboards are fine... why the orange? the blue was slick. (wished the dinovo edge had blue LED)
#21 Croquant on 03 Aug 2007 - 12:20
I have the original G15 and I have to say that this "updated" G15 looks more like a downgrade to me.

Smaller LCD, and you can't adjust the angle of it anymore. Craptastic.
6 G keys instead of 18. How is that an Upgrade??
Orange EL backlighting instead of Blue. (WTF? Why Orange?)
No more volume wheel?? No thanks.

So, now the Original G15 is a collector's item.
#22 Smeltn on 03 Aug 2007 - 18:20
I agree Croquant. This is DEFINATELY not an upgrade. I have 3 G15's currently. 1 at work, 2 at home. I guess I need to put one up for safe keeping in case one of the others go out now, because that new keyboard is HORRIBLE

The mouse reminds me of the Fatality mouse, that no one buys.

Only thing I am wondering is the article says

"Gamers can also choose from a broad range of LED colors that can be linked to each onboard profile, enabling them to coordinate the look of their mouse with their PC setup."

Is this also true with the keyboard? Because if so then that would be sweet.
