Google's Blogger Hit by Outage

Search-engine giant Google's Blogger blog publishing and Blogspot blog hosting services went offline earlier today. Among the organizations affected by this apparently widespread outage was Google itself, which hosts its official company blogs on Blogspot. This comes on top of a growing wave of complaints posted by Blogger publishers on the official Blogger discussion forum since Monday, who report problems editing, publishing, and accessing blogs. Things apparently took a turn for the worse this morning, Eastern Standard Time, when Blogger and Blogspot apparently went totally offline.

Checks on Blogger.com and a variety of Blogspot-hosted blogs by IDG News Service staff in different parts of the U.S. and Europe returned server error messages, confirming reports from users in the Blogger discussion forum. Blogger and Blogspot came back online at around 11 a.m. EST, with the outage apparently lasting over one hour. Google didn't respond to a query on Tuesday about the complaints piling up in the discussion forum, nor did it reply to a request for comment today about the service's outage.

Outages.. they happen. Though I really don't see how Blogger is of any news. If I'm not mistaken, blogs are on the very end of the news stick. Worst case scenario being angry people blogging elsewhere about how much they hate Blogger. Big whoop.

why does this garbagemake news
no service is perfect
this just creates negative publicity for google and exaggerates a problem greatly
neowin news standards have fallen pretty far down

While no service is perfect, I do think a 1+ hour long outage of one of the world's largest blogging sites is something people would like to hear about; I agree that it's not on the scale of Skype's outage, but it wasn't exactly a simple server fart either.

However, I'm sorry you feel the quality level is down, and I hope we can remedy that opinion.

"negative publicity for google"--> when a service goes down, obviously it will be in the headline..and for a company like google which is purely based on web, its a top-most priority to avoid appearing into such a kind of outage news..
