The Central Council of Jews in Germany wants the government to begin a criminal investigation into Google and YouTube for airing neo-Nazi and Nazi videos they claim violate Germany's strict laws against inciting hatred toward minorities. Salomon Korn, VP of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, called for an investigation of YouTube for allegedly allowing the spread of anti-Semitic propaganda. They include World War II Nazi propaganda clips, as well as recent clips from neo-Nazi groups active in Germany. German journalists said one of the YouTube-aired clips was viewed more than 400,000 times in eight months, despite pleas from several German groups to take it down.

anyways, the news may be a bit missleading, i dont think that germany has to improve its democracy more than just about every other country...
come over, have a short look into our system and see that germany is quite one of the most democratic countries...
anyways, yea, were still struggling with the image, however, i can proudly say that the FIFA world cup last year really helped us showing were generally a peaceful country, no more bad than very most of the rest of the world

Yes, but where do you draw the line? It is far more worthwhile to just educate the masses rather than try to cover up anything that is disagreeable. Prohibition didn't help in America, in fact it made things worse - I don't see this as any different. Anything that preaches attacks or abuse against a minority should be banned and those items should be flagged to YouTube on an individual basis (not as a unified action by a Jewish group) but it seems that anti-Semitism is treated as more serious that other forms of discrimination and that is wrong.
Propaganda is put out by all sides, like the current Western trend to discredit Chinese products or the so-called WMDs that triggered the Iraq war - Germany's policy of taking anti-Semitic behaviour so much more seriously is, imho, a mistake. I'm not supporting their viewpoint but you'll never eliminate bigots - restricting them only makes it that much more appealing and gives them a new angle: the Jew's are restricting the media. That is a view that is expressed a lot and only given more creedence by actions like this.

Actually Germany pretty much does almost everything possible to improve its image.
Although, just like with a radio station: you can say stuff and convince people, but just the ones listening!
What Im trying to say is that Germany has a lot of good stuff to offer and were the leading export country (oh yes, count japan and china, too) and very very most of the Germans respect foreigners or other people that would be a target for nazis.
Its the un- or missinformed or ignorant people that still think germany is what it used to be or just "slightly" better.
