I agree here, Symantec has always been known to use a vast amount of resources and make your system run slow. Simple way to protect your PC...? Buy a good router for the same price you would pay for "NIS" and use AVG or another Antivirus program to ptotect you from viruses, and AVG is FREE.
I would never recommend Symantec either.

- Corporate products are fine, but personal products are pure waste...

- You got that right! I'd go as far as to say Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition is the best anti-virus solution out there.

- Symantec Corporate AV USED to be VERY good, about 7 years ago.
I've seen it fail consistently since 2000. And when things went bad, I've always been able to use NOD32 to clean up after a Symantec failure. So, that's what I recommend first up right now. -

- Their corporate versions are fine, it is the CONSUMER versions that suck.
Anyone asking me for an AV solution, I point them to NOD32 or KAV

- Hi there,
As a Symantec Enhanced Beta Tester I've tested Norton Internet Security 2008 and Norton Antivirus 2008. I installed the programs both on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and I was surprised! The performance of both programs is sky high. My experience is also 'slow and heavy and memory suckin' with the earlier releases of Norton Products. I should give it a try if I were you. You'll be surprised..!

- Perhaps. But Norton products still rank poorly with regards to actual threats detected and stopped lists. Nod32 and anything using the KAV engine is a good bet for home use now.

Hi there!
Have Symantec become so desperate it is now using viral advertising? -

And it also screams 'I need an editor to correct my Engrish.'

- My workplace is a Symantec-free zone. If you come in the door with a Symantec disk of any kind, we reserve the right to shred it.
Because friends don't let friends use junk.

- Doesn't it say something toward your software, when people now have the mindset of
"Wow this isn't as bloated as it was last year or the year before"
And no real focus on what the product is actually supposed to do...

- Personally, I'm looking forward to Norton Removal Tool 2008.

- Ahh, great.
The predictable outpouring of ignorant "leet" users.
I can't believe one actually said they used One Care over N360 after using the BETA!
Lord forbid a company should actually improve their products..."I haven't used it for YEARS!"
After all, you all avoided Windows XP because of Windows ME, right?
Especially since XP was more bloated and required more resources...
For the record, NIS 2006 and up have run pretty much without issue on my systems.

- Let me show you how cool I am and start bashing Symantec and Microsoft without any real evidence. Next I will pretend to know what I am talking about when it comes to the format wars with HD-DVD vs Blu-ray. I am in the computer field in a Fortune 500 company (at least that is what you think, I am really 15 years old and play video games in my parents basement). I recommend Nod32 or KAV but I use Norton because that's what my parents bought for me.
Any of this sound familiar?
Bunch of lame wanabe techies. Before bashing a new product try to educate yourself on the improvements. I have been testing this product the past few months. I had the beta installed on my computer over the 2007 version because 2008 performed faster scannings and it was lighter on system resources.
It is so predictable when you see a headline and before you click on the comments you know the first few lame users will just bash it. You were better off just posting "First post, woot, lol". -

- What you have failed to realize is that this not base-less Symantec bashing. Their poor reputation is well-deserved as many people have been frustrated and disappointed with their products for some time now. If you had this sort of experience with any company's products would you rush out to spend more money on their latest offering? Probably not.
Symantec has a lot of work to do on their products and a lot of growing up to do in their image. It is really childish to keep pointing the finger at Microsoft instead of making their products work properly in the first place. -

That's fine you throw people, whom you know nothing about, into the "lame users" cataglory. I've been using computers before I entered Kindergarten. I built my first system when I was 15. I'm 27 now. I've used Windows on a regular basis since version 3.1. I'm in the process of learning Linux (Ubuntu 7.04) and know enough about OS X
to fix most problems. I'm not some computer n00b, and I regard myself as one hell of a trouble-shooter.
That said, I've had nothing but bad luck with NAV, NIS, etc... I have made a good deal of money REMOVING this crapware. It seems to cause more problems for people, than the things it's SUPPOSED TO DO.

- I've never had any problems with Norton Internet Security.
I'm a software developer and no computer idiot, I push my machine to the limit daily and NIS2000 - NIS2006 worked perfect for me.
I switched to OneCare when I trialed NIS2007. Just installed NIS2008 and it's working nice. Not to mention the black UI instead of that yellow is really slick looking. May switch back to NIS this year.
