HP, a long-time supporter of Linux on its server range, has announced its AMD-based Compaq dx2250 PC pre-loaded with Red Hat's Enterprise Linux 5 desktop for small and medium businesses in Australia, making it the first tier-1 manufacturer to offer the open source operating system on the desktop for the local market. "By working with Red Hat, HP now delivers the business-class technology of the HP dx2250 combined with an open and low-cost operating system to support the commercial objectives of small and medium businesses," said Rob Kingston, HP Australia's personal systems group product marketing manager. Pricing begins at $600 and the PC is available now through HP resellers.

I find Ubuntu Linux to be far more user-friendly than Vista. It had gotten to the point that I dreaded turning on my system in the morning under Vista. I never know what little program, I may have installed, that may have messed up the bootup and thus caused a BSOD and I'd be forced to reinstall yet again. I think that with many it is too late for even SP1 to do any real good since this version of Windows is so poorly written and buggy. There is far too much irrelevant iCandy in it as well. There are also far too many apologists around who love to blame the victim.
