Apple Sells 1 Millionth iPhone
By Sagittarius, 11 September 2007 - 00:45 38 comments
Apple Inc., known for its trendy line of iPod digital media player products, sold its millionth iPhone on Sunday, just 74 days after the combination cell phone-iPod went on sale and less than a week after its price was cut by a third. The electronics company previously said it expected to hit the million-sold mark by the end of September. Investors like today's announcement, sending Apple shares up $2.94, or 2.2 percent to $134.71.
On Wednesday, Apple CEO Steve Jobs cut the price of the 8-gigabyte iPhone from $599 to $399 and discontinued the $499 4-gigabyte version. The next day he apologized to those who had paid full price and offered $100 credits to early buyers. In a letter on the company's Web site, Jobs acknowledged that Apple disappointed some of its customers and said he had received hundreds of e-mails complaining about the price cut. Jobs added that "the technology road is bumpy," and there will always be people who pay top dollar for the latest electronics but get angry later when the price drops. "This is life in the technology lane," Jobs said in the letter Thursday.

. . . Who own one helluva product.
ThaCrip - 11 September 2007 - 02:40
the product may be good but it damn sure aint worth the price they want for it!
cause when is all said and done... a phone should be a PHONE and you just "call" people with it. it should not be a damn pc. lol

Er, some people want a device that calls people, messages people, browses the web, plays music and videos, etc.

Er, some people want a device that calls people, messages people, browses the web, plays music and videos, etc.
i can understand that, but the iphone's price is just rediculous, thats the bottom line... cause after all it's basically a iPHONE ... so it's made to "call" people ... everything else is just a luxury.
sure "some" people might want a device that lets em do all that but it aint really "needed" in most cases.
but i guess me personally i look at it is i use a phone to call people and thats about it... everything (videos/browse web/message people etc) else i would just use a pc.
but i do have to admit i dont use phones in general that much so that could be alot of the reason why i dont get into the fancy stuff phones do. ;)
but you do have some good points... but i guess when is all said and done i just cant justify spending 400+ on a iphone type device which main purpose is to call people.
p.s. one thing i dont understand at all is WHY people watch videos/movies etc on a phone/fancy mp3 player type device? ... just dont make sence to me (especially if you got to PAY extra for getting those videos on the device) .... cause those mp3 players are made to play music not watch video crap etc.

compared to what, really the phone aint that great, the fact they are already selling refurbs means there are a llot of faulty units gettign returned.

Steve "blow" Jobs is one smart business man. Create & hype a products to get the fanboys to stand in line for hours or days, cripple some of the technology, release it, let the fanboys make him a TON of money, then cut the price to kill off the inventory. Release a "newer" version with the crippled or deleted (on purpose) features and start all over again.
A phone for 600 bucks? Only a fanboy would buy one.......suckeeerrrrrrrrrssssssssssss
ciaran00 - 11 September 2007 - 02:17
It's 400, dumbass
ThaCrip - 11 September 2007 - 02:41
400 or 600... whats it really matter? , it's still a arm and a leg and after all, all people "need" is something decent (100 dollars ish phone) cause a phone should be a phone not a damn PC lol
SomeAzn - 11 September 2007 - 03:33
When did everyone in the world get together and decide that we all only need a phone that is not a damn PC? I must have missed that meeting.
PS: I am writing all this from my HTC phone.

See? There IS an alternative to the Iphone (or iPhone as the Apple Marketing devotes insist on calling it.)
HTC make a whole line of smartphones that can do nearly all of the stuff the Iphone can do...
...and as an extra added bonus you can **GASP** change the battery.
Try doing THAT with your Iphone. Hope you've got some cutting tools handy.

Actually, HTC phones do far more than an iPhone full stop. The only USP of the iPhone is the UI - which is very nice - but it's hardware is.. well.. retarded for 2k7.
naap51stang - 11 September 2007 - 12:43
Glad you like it..........I thought it was appropriate.
I think the fanboys should adopt the "BJ" moniker LOL
bwahahahahahah
naap51stang - 11 September 2007 - 12:54
Whoop-dee-doo on the screen. I guess the fanboys are swayed by shiny objects LOL
I've been looking at the HTC phone also.
You have to look long and hard to find any review of the SOUND QUALITY of the PHONE
part of the iphone. You can find a multitude of reviews, but none really talk about how
well the phone works, personally, the most important part of the IPHONE. Maybe they
should change the name to iPod.....that also works as a phone if you really really really
need to use it as such LOL.
