Although the company did not address North America, Sharp has plans to ship Blu-ray Disc recorders for the Japanese market this fall. Starting on October 27, Sharp’s basic HDD-less models ($875 to $1,040) for recording television programming to single layer Blu-ray Discs will debut. In December, Sharp will ship higher-end Blu-ray recorders that include hard disk drives with capacities of either 500GB ($1,730) or 1TB ($2,600), and with the ability to write to dual layer media. The 1TB recorder will reportedly be able to store up to 127 hours of high-definition video. With such high prices, Sharp isn’t exactly going to put a dent in the DVD recorder market, but the ball has started rolling.

The price jump to the terabyte model is insane! Almost 1000 bucks for 500 gigs? Yeah, right.

Personally I found the price to have gone insane at this point

OK, fair enough... I re-read his post.. and guess what.. he also never stated that there was a cheaper model...and yes, you're still a jack ass.

I agree, there's something wrong with the price there. If you look at the listed prices for hard drives, 7200 RPM 1TB drives do NOT clock in at anywhere near $1000. More like $300. Hell, you can buy a pair of 500GB drives for about $270. And that's RETAIL! The only dam way a 1TB drive would be $1000 is if you were talking about a 10,000 RPM unit... but I don't think such a beast exists or I'd own one already. Like I said, the quoted price for this PVR box is nutbar. Screw that noise, I'll build my own and save a bundle.

Things like that dont exist in spain!
#3.3 Marty2003 on 26 Sep 2007 - 20:42
Well I guess there's a good reason they're shipping these to Japan and not Spain.

for that price i'd rather buy a hefty pc with built-in hd player
#5.1 ThaCrip on 27 Sep 2007 - 04:57
exactly! ... cause thats way over priced for what you get.
#5.2 PeterTHX on 28 Sep 2007 - 01:37
You might build a cheaper *PLAYER*.

How about building a stand alone *recorder* with multiple HDTV tuners built in?

You also forget a DVD recorder with a 20GB HDD was $999 just a couple years ago.
