Intel Chairman Craig Barrett on Thursday said the microchip maker is regaining market share against Advanced Micro Devices and that its performance is looking "pretty good." Barrett also told Reuters in an interview that the world's largest chip company is fairly insulated against the U.S. economic slowdown, as most of its business is overseas. "I think we're in a very strong competitive position vis-a-vis AMD," Barrett said. "We've given guidance on our performance, and it looks pretty good," he said, declining to comment further on the company's outlook or on current demand.

Intel earlier this month boosted its revenue to between $9.4 billion and $9.8 billion for its current quarter, which is completed around the end of September. That is compared with an earlier target range of $9 billion to $9.6 billion, and with $8.74 billion in the year-ago period. Barrett said his company has been regaining market share from AMD with new products. Intel has also fought market share losses to AMD with price cuts to older products.

Around 2004 ish they started losing it. I guess they're completely raping everything now, and regaining everything they lost. Intel's is still 84%~ marketshare, so any gains are immense.

well ever since the Core 2 Duo came out (about mid 2006) ... i think it's a safe bet that intel probably started getting back ahead around that time since they regained the speed crown after losing it many years ago to AMD (probably 2000-2001ish to mid 2006 or so)

CSI is going to be interesting as well - CSI vs. Hypertransport.

I'm a massive Intel fan, but come-on AMD... get back in the fight! We need the competition. Look what happened to Intel when they started losing..... they exploded back into the fight with an unbeatable uppercut that AMD never recovered from.. (yet)

I'm a massive AMD fan, but I'll be finally hopping off the bandwagon with my next PC. Intel's done an amazing job with their new line of processors, and until AMD makes a real comeback, I'll be sitting on the Intel side (still rooting for the underdog of course).

I'm right there with ya. The last TWO builds I went the way of Intel, both dual core. I'm very happy with the results.

Such bull****....Intel had a larger market share ever since the Core Duo came out a year and a half ago....They are such liars..
