Asustek Computer has introduced the PCI Express interface Xonar D2X and the USB interface Xonar U1 audio devices. The Asustek Xonar family of audio cards utilizes an Asustek exclusive technology – the new DS3D GX extension in the Xonar D2X driver; to provide full support for surround sound and hardware accelerated features by translating DirectX to the DS3D GX, according to the company. Other solutions like OpenAL require special installation and game support, while, DS3D GX does not, pointed out Asustek. Gamers can enjoy DirectX gaming with hardware enhanced surround sound and EAX effects automatically and immediately after installation, it added.

Finally a top-end product to rival the X-Fi. It's about time as Creative's support is simply appalling - it's not hard to see why they are losing so much money.

Amazing that they are releasing the product with beta drivers.

I wonder if this will work with Cakewalk Sonar. ;-)

these xonar's are no-where near as good as the auzentech xfi which is only about £6 more. dont waste your money on 1 of these, buy 1 of these:

But their product is based upon the X-Fi and the drivers are still dependent on Creative, meaning that you're effectively buying an X-Fi card. This product is MUCH better because you're not funneling yet more money to Creative.

How is it worse, from all the reviews I've seen it's top notch / better sound quality.

The only thing I can think that your comparing is EAX performance. 3rd party sound cards can only use an older version of EAX. Creative locked them out of newer revisions of it (won't license). But this card is full dolby / dts and sound's better. There even comments on the fully functional matrure drivers for Windows / Vista 64 bit working correctly, something creative is still trying to do.

Also creative is not a healthy shape either at the moment, there no longer listed on nasdaq (us stock market) either -

2) They were dissatisfied with the reporting requirements for companies listed on American exchanges, which requires a level of detail and work not required for the Singapore Exchange.

Classic. They de-listed themselves because the US exchanges required them to make an effort basically.

All of Creative's financial reports are available publicly on their website. You can read it for yourself and see that they are towards bankruptcy in the near future. Stay as far away from these soon to be unsupported products as you can... I think Asus will pull a Nvidia-3dfx acquisition on them for IP.

Am i blind and missing the price on this thing? Since the PCI version is pushing $200 CAD I'm assuming these cards will be even more. Thats a lil steep. I dont mind spending money. I got the X-Fi Music when it was $150ish. Yes I'm annoyed with Creatives lack of decent support/drivers but I cant justify spending $200 on a sound card. Thats just my opinion though.

I don't get it. They mean DirectSound acceleration on XP or Vista? With Vista, it cannot be possible.
