Mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse hopes to boost flagging broadband uptake with a free laptop offer launched in September. The mobile phone retailer’s latest figures announced today show its broadband uptake failed to meet its forecast of 2.5 million despite beating forecasts for mobile phone connections with a 19.2 per cent rise.
The firm failed to meet the forecast for broadband uptake with 89,000 additional broadband users against a target of 103,000. The offer of a free laptop with each broadband subscription is expected help add 200,000 to 250,000 broadband customers over the second half of the year. The laptop offering is available with the company’s AOL broadband subscription.

Then they tricked me into a new 12 month contract. After spending a week figuring out that they were capping me, waisting my time on their crappy technical support, telling me it was my computer that was broken (i knew it wasn't in any way), they offered to cut my monthly price from £30 a month to £25. Instead of giving me the discount as they told me, they downgraded me to a 2mbit connection from 8mbit. Then I got back to them to cancel the whole thing because i was tired of being messed around, they told me that because I had requested an account downgrade, this had bound me to a new 12 month contract and havn't budged on it since. As soon as its over, I'm out this time. No discounts, no gifts, AOL are a POS
I am now onto sky £5 pm, Tiscali are hopeless. worst ISP ever.
+1
Reason why a lot of people were disswayed by the AOL offer was that the contract is 24 months/

I'm certainly not innocent of downloading... "copywritten" material but how the heck do you manage 700gb in a month?!
