US Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Toshiba, has announced the voluntary recall of about 142,000 Toshiba AC adapters (model ADPV16) sold with the company's SD-P1600 portable DVD players, a move sparked by concerns that the AC adapters could fail, causing the DVD player to overheat, thus posing a burn hazard to consumers. As of this point, no injuries have been reported due to the defect, though Toshiba has received two reports of minor damage to the bottom of the DVD player. The electronics company said that the players were manufactured in China and sold in the US between January 2005 and April 2006; consumers are advised to stop using the AC adapters immediately and contact Toshiba customer support for a replacement.

[satire]Is there anything that's "Made in China" now that doesn't cut, explode, burn or poison? I mean, seriously, I expect that a lead-coated exploding sharp-edged iPod knock-off to arrive from China any day now and kill literally tens of consumers.[/satire]

Stop buying cheap crap from cheap crappy retailers like WalFart. You complain about cheap products but are friggin cheapskates and only want to pay for the cheapest crap. Vote with your wallet and don't buy cheap crap from WalFart, or stop complaining and live with your cheap crap.

And before you claim "I don't buy from Walfart"... well, all retailers have had to go that route to some extent to stay alive in this market. So whether or not you buy directly from Walfart, the hundreds of millions who do have driven the entire market to cheap crap. It doesn't matter if it's made in China, Japan, Russia, your backyard, wherever. When manufacturers are pushed too far to cut costs, the result is cheap crap.
