Google has announced that the free online storage for Gmail will increase gradually in the next days.
As of October 23th, users will get 4321MB of storage, and from January 4th next year, will see 6283MB of storage.
After that users will receive 3.3MB every day, which is apparently 10 times larger than the current rate of growth.
Google Apps mail accounts will have the same quota as standard Gmail accounts, while Google Apps Premier Edition will have 25GB mail accounts, compared to 2GB and 10GB previously.
"In April 2005, we started increasing Gmail storage as part of our "Infinity+1" storage plan. At that time, we realized we'd never reach infinity, but we promised to keep giving Gmail users more space as we were able," says the Gmail Blog.
Yahoo and Microsoft have recently increased the online storage they offer, so it appears as if Google, once the market leader in the area, has moved to catch up.

I wish it was bigger. For emails, 20Mb is pretty big I guess, but I'd be happier with 50Mb or 100Mb.

The problem is most providers won't even accept 50 mb, much less 20 unless you're hosting your own email.

Yeah. I hate that our school emails run through hotmail. Since hotmail only allows for 10MB attachments, my Gmail address couldn't send the 13MB attachments with my assignments to my teacher. (which makes it even more lame is that she won't let me compress them)
Bah. Hopefully MS will compete and jack up their attachment caps.
unlimited??
what are you going to store!
crazy.
unlimited is nothing ,in my opinion!
unlimited is nothing
Was that meant to be Ironic?
You are currently using 2590 MB (80%) of your 3208 MB.
I don't delete any email, thats why im using 2.6GB of storage... thank you GMail/Google for the upgrade.

I do and I'm not even a heavy user of email. It's filled with junk, to be honest, things like topic replies and such, but it's nice to have it all there.

Then more fool you. I struggle to use 1% of my inbox. I just dont see the point of giving people 6gb of storage. Unless your using gdrive of course...

No Gdrive usage, as for my work we transfer lots of high-resolution pictures and weekly reports. Gmail is the answer for my work. Maybe you are using it just to send love mails, which might not exceed the 1% of the storage Gmail is giving you.

Woody

Exactly. It's one more selling point for GMail, though. Of course a casual user will barely even scrape their storage, but they're happy, and Google are happy, so we're all happy!
23th?!?!?! lol
23th?!?!?! lol
Unprofessional journalism..
And for people who counts on gmail I would like to make you all remember one thing. Gmail does not delete your emails. They store everything and generate ads related to your email bodies. Well if you care for privacy or not ?. I personally don't think that they have right to generate banners due to my email content which is my private stuff.
Why do you think they give this free? Would you give anything free?
Read this properly you will understand more i am sure!
