ATI CrossFire multi-GPU technology was announced in mid-2005, but has not really gained widespread popularity since then, partly because ATI’s flagship graphics products faced delays and partly because Nvidia put tremendous efforts into popularization of its SLI multi-GPU technology. But ATI, graphics product group of Advanced Micro Devices, may be hoping to reverse the trend with introduction of ATI CrossFireX tech.

Later this year AMD plans to announced new ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology that will bring such benefits as 3- and 4-way CrossFire, CrossFire Overdrive, hybrid CrossFire and other features that are set to improve performance, compatibility, scalability and flexibility of ATI’s multi-GPU technology, sources close to AMD told X-bit labs

Bring on multi-core and power efficient GPUs already! 3 or 4 GPUs is just beyond madness... you need a bloody 1000W PSU for that. O_O

Wouldn't need a 1KW supply if they would just shrink the scale of the chips from 180/90 nm to 65 or 45nm

What are you smoking, 180nm chips? from when? the 1990's
And ATi already has 65nm GPU's.

The massive heat... the PSU power needed... Wow. Not Energy Star compliant for sure...

Hopefully they will employ a more elegant solution for connecting the cards together besides the external cable they use now.

Check 2900's dude they use a clip like SLi for crossfire now, no Y-Dongle anymore that stopped with the X1900XTX i believe

Wow crossfire 3 or 4 cards... they should at least made crossfire with 2 work before going for 3 or 4. At least nvidia sli work and already support 3 or 4 cards.

Go ati troll, start flamming me saying I'm an nvidia monkey, go!
