Both Ford and Microsoft have teamed up to release a special edition pink Zune for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While many companies are jumping at the chance to bring awareness to such an important cause, these two are going above and beyond the normal promotions. For every pink Zune sold, 100% of the purchase price ($250 US) will be donated Susan G. Komen for the Cure. There's no word on how many units are entering production, but these will be limited versions. If you're in the market for a personal media player and don't mind one that's pink, make sure to look out for the pink Zune. This is one of the few times your purchase will be doing others a very big favor.

I can't believe how simple that was.
Why did you post this AFTER I'd already written the post below?
The Pink Zune costs the same amount as a regular zune, so the customer isn't paying any more....and isn't "donating", they're just buying the product. On the other hand Microsoft is losing money in the manufacturig process and donating their "profits" that they'd otherwise keep had it been any other colour; the customers aren't paying anymore for the pink over another colour.
So Microsoft is definitely donating money one way or the other.
If the companies REALLY wanted to help then, they should lower the price to about $100 (they're only paying for manufacturing and even THAT will be given a tax break, so why should it matter what price it's being sold at) and keep the offer open for an extended period, instead of it being limited to a few (if that) thousand units... hell I'd even buy one.. but I'll be screwed if I pay THAT kind of money for the POS that the Zune is... regardless of the charity, I'd rather (and I do) just send them a cheque.
It's all kidology... the companies are pulling an economic sleight of hand trick.. THEY LOSE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING whilst reaping the P.R kudos and get recognition for their brand, and the consumer foots the bill.
It's all one big con.

A perfect match.
So does this now make the Zune relevant? Or better yet, <snipped - rule 6>
Neither. Oh well.

Wanna compare how much Steve Jobs has done for charity compared to Bill Gates?
I didn't think so. It would be terribly embarassing for the iPod "icon" who donates only a few dollars from Project (red) iPods to charity.
At least Microsoft gives 100%.
Oh well.

As if people didn't know about breast cancer? It's not like it breast cancer charities aren't plastered all over, everywhere. Why don't we see any lung cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, or heart disease charities? Those all kill more people than breast cancer does, and yet "awareness" doesn't come anywhere close to matching that of breast cancer. Breast cancer is a fad charity. Just like AIDS.
