Speculation is heating up on whether or not the Chinese government is hijacking Chinese Internet search traffic and redirecting it to Baidu, the leading Chinese search engine. Google acknowledged the issue, but did not provide any insight on who is doing the dirty work: "We've had numerous reports that Google.cn and other search engines have been blocked in China and traffic redirected to other sites," said a Google spokesperson. Philipp Lenssen, who maintains Google Blogscoped, noted that all sites with the word "search" in their domain name all began to redirect to Chinese search engine Baidu as of about 1 a.m. Beijing time Wednesday.
Danny Sullivan at Search Engine Land pointed out that a 2002 Reuters article documents China's previous use of Internet traffic redirection as a means of retaliation against Google. Why would China do such a thing? Theories range from this week's various events: Chinese Communist Party Congress - happens every 5 years and is typically a time of heightened government sensitivity, Chinas unhappiness of Dalai Lama's warm reception in Washington and Google's YouTube launch of a local site in Taiwan a country China considers to be part of China.

They can't be stopped.
Incidentally there are movements in both Vermont and Cornwall to gain independence, don't see YouTube recognizing that.
i think you'll find that when it comes to choosing who you serve based on numbers, supporting taiwan is the clear choice...
Nothing against the Chinese people at all, I have no hatred towards any of them. Just that a lot of stuff has been going on.
All the stuff coming out of China that's been getting recalled
The US government saying there's been some hacking done to thier systems that came from China. Which is one I find funny. Like the US government hasn't hacked into any senstive systems of other countries before
Now they're redirecting search engine traffic. Something's going on.
Actually, China was beginning to change; they had wanted to become more like the US and adopt capitalism (at least to a point) but now the government is realizing the implications and doesn't want to lose its stronghold. It is reverting back to its old Communistic ways.
This is not correct IMO, as of today, Taiwan isn't a country, and that's why they're not represented in the UN.
Back on topic though: i think this won't last for long, maybe for the course of the congress, then everything will be back to normal.

Except that having a seat in the UN does not define a country. You're a country if you have a seat in the UN, but not having a seat in the UN doesn't mean you're not a country. Definition of a country: "noun
1. a politically organized body of people under a single government;".
But anyways, I'm not surprised by their action at all.

1st - taiwan is a country in every way possible. just that china is saying "no you're not......" because they don't want to accept defeat. it's like mexico saying texas isn't a state of the united states but really a part of mexico still
just because one country doesn't want to accept it, doesn't make it so
2nd - why wouldn't it last for long? it's china. they can and will do whatever they feel like. this is normal for china

There are actually a few political groups saying that exact thing. And everything else you said is spot on. Im really stunned at how so many people are so illinformed about China. Whats with all the surprise?
