And oh yeah, pics will be coming soon (showing of all the apps). To give a bit of a background of my iPod experience, I have owned two nanos and a shuffle (all of which are first gen). So in terms of iPod upgrades, it doesn't get much bigger (well, maybe an iPhone)."

802.1X is a port based authentication scheme used with ethernet and 802.11a/b/g/n. A lot of colleges and businesses use it, and it makes the iPod Touch utterly useless on those networks (it can't connect)
OSX has supported it since 10.3, so its absence in the Touch is completely inexusable.
I didn't say all college networks. Probably not even a majority, but there are a decent number of colleges that use the 802.1X authentication that the iPod Touch lacks.
Neither xsupplicant nor wpa_supplicant is compatible with the iPod Touch, and the only project I found that had anything to do with 802.1x on the iPT/iPhone didn't seem to be any further than the planning stage.

Hey, I wish I didn't win. I want to get an iPod Touch, but I can't use its wifi until either someone hacks a supplicant on it, or Apple adds support.
Does the iPhone even have this?
The thing is in designing the iPod touch they probably didn't really take cases like yours into account; 802.1X isn't very common in home networks and places like that.
No. The iPhone does not.
But as I said, aren't college kids a big market? Quite a few campus networks use it.
