The servers of OiNK.cd - one of the most popular private BitTorrent trackers - are raided and the admin, a 24-year-old man from Middlesbrough, is arrested. The British and the Dutch police both contributed to the investigation that was initiated by the IFPI and the BPI, two well known anti-piracy organizations. The operation was supported by Interpol who coordinated the international cooperation. According to early reports OiNk’s servers were confiscated in Amsterdam last week. This seems to be unlikely because the site was still fully functional 24 hours ago. The administrator of OiNK was arrested this morning by the Cleveland Police.

the problem I have with a story like this is the perpetrators will get a heftier sentence than a drink driver, thief or sexual predator

heh. welcome
The record industry got THOUSENDS of euro’s from me BECAUSE OF OINK.
I - like many others - do buy their cds if they are worth it and I found countless of bands and cds I would never had even heard of on OiNK and eventually bought them.
But you know what? **** them. I’m not buying any of their over priced cd’s anymore sucks for the artists but I’ve had it I’m not buying **** from record companies anymore.
They say we hurt the artists by downloading music? hah what a joke. If anything they are the once that really hurt the artists with over pricing CD’s/DVD’s and other media trying to force us to have them decide where and how many times we play our bought music.
Would be nice if the artists would put some pressure on the record companies they are the main reason they are losing A LOT of money.

Damn it, and I just had gotten my ratio fixed too. I wish the admin well in his court endeavors.

aw you poor thing? never got into one of those invite only sites yet huh?
open registration = leechers
invite only = more seeders and less leechers.
It was hands down, the best music resource on the internet, in both quality and quantity
"oink helped me buy their cds..."
"..if it wasnt for oink i would of never bought their cd..."
what a load of bull!!! Why would you buy something you already have? So tell me guys... if you go to Calvin Klein to look at a pair of jeans do you take them to try them out durring the day and if you like them you go back and pay for them? Nope it doesn't work that way right? So why can you do it with music?
Listen to a clip? Itunes lets you do that if you like it perfect if not your good to go. So everyone saying that they payed for a cd that they d/l is dumb!
Just my 2cents!

Plenty of times I've done that, now I'll admit that a few CDs I hadn't bought but the majority I had bought to support the artist.
you can see the jeans and try them on. you cant hear the cd, at best you can hear a few 5 second "select" samples that someone sticks on a website.
if i downloaded something from oink and i liked it, i'd buy the cd. I also used oink for out of production back-cat and obscure hard to find things from labels that don't even exist now. I don't have this problem with Jeans.
As IceBrewedBeer said... one of the reasons is to support the artists! Thats 50% for me. The other 50% is QUALITY.
If I download the music, it usually comes in 192/320 kbps or in VBR, but still, there is quality loss! Nothing better than hearing music directly from the CD. 1411 kbps != 320.
