With the release of MacOS X Leopard, the comparisons between Vista and Leopard are out in force. Windows Vista had a rough start and has taken its share of beatings on-line including here at Neowin.net. But after 9 months of availability, Vista has shaped up nicely and SP1 looks to massauge most of the remaining complaints with Microsoft's new OS.
Moreover, it is often easy to forget just how big of a release Windows Vista really was. While Leopard claims "300 new features" most of those features are minor in nature (Let's face it, MacOS X is so good that it's in the enviable position of only needing to evolve, Windows Vista, by contrast, had to play a lot of catch-up). Windows Vista has closer to 10,000 new features when one adds both major and minor updates to the mix.
WinCustomize has an article outlining 10 examples of minor features that rarely get discussed and yet make a small but noticeable improvement to the Windows experience over Windows XP.

Cool! I had no idea about that program!
it isn't called snip tool if you have a non english vista

I have American English Vista... 6.0 build 6000... All updates installed.
Everything else on that list is pretty dead-on.
We are? No one makes the trolls come out, they do that on their own. If you dopn't like what a newspaper publishes, do you write a letter to the editor chiding him for flame-bait?
Not that I'm a fanboy, but being one who's going to get Vista just for tech support purposes, I want to know your reasoning.

He's a linux fanboy. No reasoning beyond that.
In other words, a typical 1.0 release from Microsoft. Except this release may have a few more serious problems from the new, hastily-added or cut-down features included in Vista than XP ever did. Those things (UAC, WGA, WDDM driver performance problems, networking and file management issues, high memory usage, etc) need to be fixed before Vista can replace XP, or before more Windows users really do switch to OS X, and maybe even Linux.
Vista sales slow despite record MS profit
The sales rate of Microsoft's Windows Vista is gradually slowing down as the operating system reaches the one-year anniversary of its release to businesses, according to the company's latest financial results. Shipments of the OS peaked in the first three months after its January release, when the company sold an average of 20 million copies per month thanks to a wave of early adopters and users waiting for Vista to replace older systems.
It is in many ways an unfinished product, but when you say "overall" you're making a subjective judgment. One that I think judgmental people who follow tech stories have more than the average person. While some people who should never have bought Vista install it on their machines; the people who have bought new machines or upgrade over XP on capable machines I think are happy enough and pleased with improvements over XP. I don't think people who have bought new Vista laptops are really that unhappy.
While Microsoft certainly needs to get its act together; some people balloon this into saying "VISTA IS CRAP". No, its unfinished has some loose ends and has a lot less improvements that should be there development time speaking, but its not crap.
All I've heard so far is people talking about all the problems they find when trying to replace it with xp.
I've yet to meet anyone in real life who has had, overall, a positive impression from Vista.
and most annoying one some Toshiba laptop and gateway system and latop didn't have no support for xp
so had to hunt for drivers.
but back to subject as much vista has to offer people still prefer xp, solely because was huge improvement from win98
and since xp does good job and less BSOD usually because bad drivers or user errors and spyware/virus all user fault for trying to download everything they see has free on it.
I have use Vista for while and I still have mix feeling about it...

10,000?
You're somewhat stupid, period. What he was saying was that if Microsoft counted Vista's features like Apple did with Leopard, you would have 10,000. Actually, it's more like 11,000 (Paul Thurrott).
And plus, if you wanted to insult it, it's not VistaMe2, it's WindowsMe2.

Its over 9000!!!!
I have tied Vista on two different laptops and have come away feeling that the wireless networking in Vista sucks. In XP after you added the network, which is easy, it instantly connects every time you turn on the laptop. In Vista, after I turn on the laptop it will sometimes connect within a minute or so and sometimes it will not even connect and force me to recreate the profile. Plus, you have to "refresh" the wifi list around 6-23 times before the network I am looking for will show up.
In XP Wireless works and it works FAST.
Funny, my laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 and it works just great.

Luck you
Only thing I'd like to see is a quicker way to see how much data has been sent and received. In XP you just double clicked. The info's still there but it takes a bit more time to get the window with the info to come up as it's more hidden. Still, for average users thats probably for the best.
I got this tip from TweakVista to create a direct shortcut to Network Connections:
Adding direct shortcut to Network Connections
I guess some of it must be down to driver issues.
All 3 of these were done with clean installs and the latest Intel drivers as all three laptops us the Intel WiFi chipsets from the 39xx to the new 4xxx series.
I use any other OS, linux, XP, MAC, anything but Vista. It has been causing my some problems on different computers, and all the people that know me are begging to remove Vista and install XP. Actully, yesterday I got 3 laptops and 1 PC just for that matter.
Shadow copy is also a life saver and have used it on more then one ocasion .Also the built in full systemn backup image software is awesome also.
Vista is great you cant blame microsoft for all the lazy 3rd party's and their drivers.
Wirless is also much better for me then xp.
One more thing. I also find the dual core usage much better on vista. On xp when I would switch things to their own processor 50 percent of the time xp would blue screen on me. On the same computer (a dell xps 410 with a core 2 duo) with vista not a single error when switching porograms to the different cores.
I don't know I have tried all the latest drivers for that for xp and non of them made it any better.

Fair enough, perhaps odd conflict or other vendor issue then.

More like rage....
At least they have a hot fix for this (Portuguese), but giving it on windows update before the problem occurs would be too much to ask.
thanks
As described (at the bottom) here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2110436,00.asp
Polish? Please. Better thumbnails? Maybe a little but at the expense of performance. Disabling that **** makes Vista's explorer run much faster.
Vista has some nice little improvements here and there but overall I still contend that it's a slow, bloated, badly designed hog.

my system runs vista perfectly great as my system can with no Lag and without disabling anything. so it is not Microsoft's fault your system sucks dude or MaM or IT or What ever Slow in the head being from outer space man or alien you are . <Humor> so don't be offended
2. My system is much faster than the majority of systems out there. It runs Windows XP just fine, it runs Ubuntu just fine, in fact it even runs OSx86 just fine. My system is not the problem, Vista is a slow bloated hog, or did you just gloss over that part.
Remember the old star trek series?
