Apple's newest operating system is at best an evolution from predecessor Tiger. Some of the criticisms leveled at Windows Vista apply to Leopard. Seriously.
I bought my copy of Leopard on Saturday from the local Apple Store. Granted, I've only used the software for two days, but it has made a remarkably fast first impression. There is much to like about Leopard, but this cat scratches—oh, am I wounded. What's bugging me about Leopard is what bugged me about Vista eight months ago...

Read the comments before posting back here.
The article he wrote that praised Leopard (someone posted the link below the post, but here it is again) received a total of 8 comments. Eight.
This one that criticized Leopard received 48 comments at the time of this post, some of them on the lines of "I expected this from a site with MS in their name."
Clearly one group of users is acting a bit too defensive here.

Its not just that. His posts "Why Leopard is Better than Vista" and "Why Leopard isn't Better than Vista" both have fair points, but people who are trashing him are say 'vista is crap, mac rules'. And then people are saying he is a biased MS fanboy
Exactly... except for the Apple fans raving over it.. the fanboys are but if one is honest, both Vista and Leopard (and all other OS's) have similar issues when released.
I hope we can get past bashing and all the naysayers and post some positive articles about Leopard and Vista .... Here is a good article about Leopard that has a lot of info... It's kind of long but it has a background and what's new in Leopard.
http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/mac-os-x-10-5.ars/1
And a bit off topic...
FFS people, stop calling the KERNEL PANIC in OSX a BSOD.

Then shut up. Nobody wants to hear your uninformed trolling comments.
If you HAD bothered to look at the link, you would have seen the accompanying article: Why Leopard is Better than Vista
I'm rating this article a 1. Daniel should have read and posted both articles.
Remember, macs are different... so you can't use the same terminology... it just isn't allowed. Even though they both have a "Kernel Panic" and they both display debug/dump information and bring the system to a halt. But one is a Kernel Panic and one is a "BSOD" even though they are the same thing... funny isn't it?
Why does everyone keep going on about Kernel Panic's and BSODs? The problem caused by APE was not a Kernal Panic. It was merely a hang at startup that just happened to have a blue background. It really helps to read the entire article before posting.
Now that's what I call bias!

I think "Double standards." would be more accurate.
http://neowin.net was running Apache on Linux when last queried at 30-Oct-2007 13:55:49 GMT - Site Report:
OS - Server - Last changed - IP address - Netblock Owner
Linux - Apache/2.2.6 ( Unix ) - 30-Oct-2007 - 66.28.242.203 - Cogent Communications
...and from error pages received, the back-end is MySQL.
This is a technology site. It is the people who post that make it biased or unbiased.
It is ran by eWeek/Ziff Davies so not come with that bullcrap
No it isn't. The source is ridiculously against MS, if you read their previous articles.
Here, I can do it too:
http://www.macdailynews.com/
Leopard praised by everyone, from Walt Mossberg, to Forbes Magazine, to Cnet, to Ars Technica, you name it.
But frankly, I'm a bit tired of it all. I've had enough.
What are you talking about? I've read nothing but bad front page news on neowin about vista for months.

That's why he said "... and the reverse type of **** makes the frontpage ..." meaning - there are Leopard kills Vista articles in the BPN and there are bad articles covering the shortcomings of Leopard on the front page.
Helps if you actually read...

Rudeness never goes out of style. I didn't consider BPN as a "forum" however.
-Didn't know that Apple has been deleting complaints posted on their forums, and
-Didn't read any of the other articles posted on Neowin explaining people's frustrations with Kernal panics, upgrade problems, incompatibilities, and other issues
It can be tiring but not "everyone" shares your opinion.
Holy crap. Before writing his opinion off please do yourselves a favour and read post 3.2.
I just find it funny that once Mac users favorite OS gets a negative article, they go ape-**** and cry foul. Sorry, OS X is not as perfect as you think it is. Neither is Windows Vista, or any Linux "flavors".
There are reasons why OS X is not #1 over Windows, and we all know exactly what those are.
1) Windows Vista sucks and is inferior to everything else, especially Apple products. Apple doesn't steal ideas from Microsoft, only the other way around.
2) Firefox is cool and Internet Explorer is garbage.
People really need to become more aware of these rules before logging onto internet blogs and message boards.
3) if a half attractive attractive girl is featured anyway in a post or article at least 80% of the posts must be of the form "I'd hit that" or something similar. 10% will be people claiming the 80% are immature and the other 10% will be people talking about the article itself.
4) If number 3 (above) should happen and no image is included, at least someone will ask for an image or state the girl in question doesn't exist until an image is posted.
But yeah, at least on this site theres almost nothing as dividing as OS or browser debates. Movie and console formats can get a bit spurred too.

Suggest you take heed of your so called rules and practice accordingly.
What a rude post !
What a rude post !
That was a sarcastic post.
That all aside though, spaces is really nice and the new dock is kinda nice too. I wish Time Machine used a store on the main drive instead of requiring an external drive. I just think that it needed to be tested more carefully before hitting the market. I mean it's Apple's own software for Apple's own hardware - there's no reason why people with Intel iMacs should be having Kernel Panics when they do an upgrade and stuff like that. Microsoft has tons of manufacturers and hardware to contend with... Apple pushed out a buggy "upgrade" to their own OS that runs exclusively on their hardware.
I dunno I just expected more - like I could install it this weekend then get back to work and that's not what happened at all.
I'd like to clarify before someone jumps down my throat - I refuse to install Vista on any of my machines until SP2. It also is not great for what it is right now but I expected that. Apple had less testing since they controlled the playing ground and they fumbled it in my book.
If my only problems on upgrading an OS were:
- The fact that I needed to upgrade an existing app (in this case a VPN client).
- That I had to use Firefox rather than IE to browse Outlook Web Mail.
- That I couldn't delete mail from an IMAP server.
- A sluggish internet connection.
...then I'd be a happy man! But it's all relative, and when upgrading from XP to Vista... (ok well in the end I had to re-install Vista from scratch) I had to update numerous applications particularly security software, and a number of other things broke, plus of course there's still that castrated tcpip.sys that's been there since XP SP2 to give you 'sluggish' internet performance. Added to this, I'm one of the lucky ones who didn't suffer with Windows Update installing a new driver and then Vista promptly failing authentication and shutting down most of my machine until Microsoft twigged and offered a fix and an apology.I'm one of the many who has actually wiped Vista off and re-installed XP SP2, and I'll wait to see what Vista SP1 brings to the table. However I'm not passionate about software, it's there to do a job and I use XP simply because I'm used to it, and I guess if you took my PC away and gave me a Mac, I'd happily use that instead... or perhaps even Linux. The three main OS offerings these days all have their merits, I just don't think it's time to sell your house simply cos the roof leaks a bit Daniel.
But seriously, has anyone here actually used Leopard long enough to make such an observation? ....
....less-than-a-week hardly does it imho.
Bigons? The word is: bygones.
I agree, both OSes are getting bloated. Apple and MS are both running out of reasons to have anyone buy their expensive operating systems when the Linux alternative costs nothing. It's just about the applications now, rather than features or performance.
It is inevitable that Linux will win if development continues at its current pace. Other than application lock-in, what can Windows or OS X possibly do at this point to radically improve value over Linux? I guess they can lower their prices for a start.
For many mac users exist MAC that it's easy, nice, cheap (lol), powerful and holly, and exist a evilness from computer, a idealization from teletypes machines, nerds, 80's cliche and big mainframes.
JESUS CHRIST STOP BEING BLIND AND BASHING ONE SIDE WHEN YOU'RE BEING JUST AS BAD
JESUS CHRIST STOP BEING BLIND AND BASHING ONE SIDE WHEN YOU'RE BEING JUST AS BAD
Someone's a bit ... passionate.
Holy crap, we have a true bonafide teller of the future here. Hey Miss. Cleo, can you please tell us what our lucky numbers are?
Note the subtle change in language: its ok to be "critical" of Microsoft, but any hint that Leopard is not absolutely perfect is instantly classified as "bashing".
How true, how true. Wait...how is it then that people can switch from Windows to Linux/Mac if they're entirely closed-minded when it comes to new operating systems?
Again with the supposed flame bait. I see someone's called the fire truck, but where's the smoke here?

My question is how can a writer twisted his mind in just ONE Second from 4:16pm to 4:17pm.
Thank you Alan Turing, but the difference between 4:16 and 4:17 is actually on the order of a minute. Anyway, this isn't a case of changing one's mind more so than offering differing perspectives on a common issue - except that one is criticism, and the other is apparently bashing.
Vista IS a bug, a 6-years old bug. It looks now pretty ok, but the huge amount of resources it needs to achieve only this lets it lay way behind Linux or MacOS X, which don't need a newest generation 256MB graphic card to make a single window flip over...
There's something about this one that emits a sense of hatred. Is there any actual reason to resort to plain lies to make a point?
