As rumored, Apple has quietly updated the MacBook to the Santa Rosa architecture with mild speed bumps and the GMA X3100 integrated video.

White 13.3"
$1099.00 2.0GHz/1GB RAM/80GB/Combo/GMA X3100
$1299.00 2.2GHz/1GB RAM/120GB/SD-DL/GMA X3100

$1499.00 2.2GHz/1GB RAM/160GB/SD-DL/GMA X3100

Despite comparable clock speeds (2.0 -> 2.0GHz, 2.16 -> 2.2GHz) to the old models, the new MacBooks use the Santa Rosa chipset which boasts a faster 800MHz front side bus over the previous MacBook models. The introduction of the GMA X3100 video card also provides significant benefits over the previous models. The new specs can be seen at the Apple Store.

Apparently Apple no longer cares about keeping a good speed difference between its Macbook and Macbook Pro lines. It was said before that Apple would leave Santa Rosa to the Pro line only to give it a real advantage. If this update had been made before I purchased my Pro I would have considered it, however now that I have my GeForce 8600M GT, a matte 15" display, and an ExpressCard (think Laptop RAID Array! I no longer have much use for a more compact 13" Macbook (I still have my first gen Macbook anyway).

P.S. I wonder if these new Macbook's have the LED Screens like my MBP does? It's pretty sad that my MBP gets over 4 hours battery life and my 1st gen Macbook is lucky to get 2.5.

Bugger. I just bought a Macbook two days ago.

Ah well, it's my wife's and she doesn't game so no great loss.

I almost bought my Wife one on Monday but we decided to wait, now I'm glad we did. Go return if for the upgrade, they will hook you up.

Apple is being stupid when it comes to super drives on low end models.. honestly

Why is that? It's actually common to come equipped with a DVD burner these days, high end laptop or not.
