HTC ships 1 Million HTC Touch Smartphones in Five Months

Sales of HTC Touch, the touch-controlled smartphone made High Tech Computer (HTC), surpassed one million units at the end of October after the phone was launched in June, according to HTC CEO Peter Chou. Total sales of the HTC Touch lineup, including the HTC Touch Dual and Touch Color, are expected to reach 1.5-1.8 million units by year-end 2007, Chou estimated. HTC also looks forward to posting a more than 20% growth in handset shipments in 2008, up from the 11 million units projected for 2007, Chou added. In related news, the integration of HTC and its subsidiary Dopod International has helped strengthen Dopod's competitiveness in Asia, according to Jack Tong, vice president of marketing, Asia Pacific, HTC.

My only concern is Apple watching this and evaluating the possibility to buy HTC.

I didn't say they were going to buy, I only said they were evaluating and I'm sure they are doing just that now

I'm 100% sure Apple is looking at these numbers now and thinking that's how many more iPhones they could have sold =)

The new HTC Touch Cruise is destined to snatch some more sales from iPhone and this makes the guys at Apple uneasy

Better check your facts about what the HTC TC is "destined" to do.

So far, more than 1.5 million iPhones have been sold. Check Brent Schlender of Fortune, for example. If HTC sold more of its sloppy-seconds device in substantially less than 5 months, then that's a different story. But that isn't what you said.

I'm glad you're completely keyed in to the mood at Apple HQ in Cupertino. Can you also leap over tall buildings in a single bound?

From all the buzz, media hype, and increasing interest, Apple likely (but not guaranteed) has another iPod on their hands. Time will tell, but I think it's safe to say the device is meeting Apple's revenue expectations.

imho, it's pretty reasonable to compare sales of both products side-by-side. 1.5 million over 4 months and 1 million over 5 months puts both products into same category thus making each other mutual competitors.

Excellent! The TouchFlo is an exceptional technology on robust devices produced by HTC. My TyTN II is arriving on Monday. Can't wait!!

No, but there are programs that do the same thing for the Tytn II/at&t tilt.
I've had the tilt since it came out. Sure is nice just to carry ONE device, instead of
a cell phone AND a PDA.

True. The mechanism is definitely there on the TyTN II / Tilt, just not the front-end. I'm pretty sure there'll be a separate package soon to get the entire interface to work on the TyTN. Due to demand, it may even be an official release.

Ignoring the HTC branding excercise, TouchFlo is a hardware feature in the Touch series. That is FACT. It also has a higher quality, higher strength screen coupled to this.

TouchFlo is NOT software. The cube is irrelevent.

I know... Currently I have a Orange M3100 (TyTn Original), and have had nearly every Orange branded HTC handset released.

TyTn II is a great great device, but after a year, I'm sick of having a brick as a phone. It's great if thats what you are after though.

I'm looking at getting a Samsung i620 after christmas.

TyTn II has the HTC homeplug, and I think the photo app as well, but TouchFlo is a hardware feature, that only Touch has currently.

I must say that the Windows interface is hard to beat - the flexibility and the amount of apps available will never be matched by iphone... the iphone is only bought by people who don't know that windows based phones are better!

There may be more apps for Windows Mobile, but the iPhone interface is uncontested: it's the best there is. We're going to see other companies match and surpass it in the coming months, but the iPhone interface has been designed from the start to be easy to use, without a stylus, and it's very responsive (almost instant, really). Windows Mobile doesn't come close to matching it yet, in my opinion.

That's the problem for some users, you see, the lack of choices on the iPhone. You basically have to live with what Apple throws at you as there isn't much room for changes. Many are fine with that, though, because it -is- slick and attractive. That's not acceptable to some. They want to fill the storage with applications, games and utilities and not just music, photo and videos.

many people are buying iPhones just for the hype and the marketing...Though the design and interface are really cool.
but conscious users are opting for WMP6 devices because of the features and applications available now. HTC is closing the gap in design with its new devices.
