Microsoft's limited Zune 80 Stock sells out way too quickly

The 80GB Zune media player Microsoft Corporation launched Tuesday has sold out across the Web, to the dismay of online shoppers and delight of the world’s largest software maker. Amazon was forced to announce that their pre-ordered devices for November 13 shipping would not be sent for 10 more days. Anya Waring, an Amazon spokeswoman, said quite a few Zunes have “definitely shipped and sold” but that Amazon is being given a limited number each week.

While Web retailers have 4 GB and 8 GB versions of the second-generation Zunes in stock, the 80 GB music player is not available on Amazon, Best Buy or Circuit City’s Web sites. Microsoft said it prioritized the manufacture of the smaller Zune 4 and Zune 8 devices, and that more of the 80 GB version should be on shelves, physical and virtual, in the next 10 to 14 days. Whatever the reason for the lack of stock, for rumours will tell you Microsoft is in fact having manufacturing troubles, it is still quite amazing that the product managed to sell out in just a few days.

awesome news, i hope they become really popular...

popular enough to SELL IN CANADA!!!!!!!! >.>

Why would you want that?

With the strength of the CAD right now, it's much better to buy it from the US.

lol.

He means that the Canadian price will be much higher than the American one because retailers still haven't adjusted their prices.

Yeah, he has a point there. I mean if you look at consoles and other MP4 player's prices in different countries, you'd be bloody outraged at how much premium you have to pay. For example, the Xbox 360 Arcade. In America, it's $280 (£140). Over here in the UK, it's £180 ($360)! Slightly minor, but then again, take the PS3. In America, the old 60GB model costs $500 (£250). Over here, it was £425 ($850)!

Geeze, want to try and spin the title a little more?

Perhaps this is more accurate "Possible manufacturing flaws leads to shortage of Zune 80s"? Or if you can't confirm the manufacturing flaw rumor, maybe "Zune 80 stock shortages leaves customers lining up"?

LOL That wouldn't be nearly inept enough.

What a stupid and pointless news posting ...

If Microsoft only made two of these units per week, of course they'll be sold out quickly.

Nope, not by itself. How amazing that feat was strongly depends on how many units Amazon were given.

That decides whether they have shipping problems or selling like crazy. Big, BIG, difference.
#6.1 vetSlimy on 17 Nov 2007 - 15:29
Exactly. We won't know for sure until Microsoft releases the sales numbers.
#6.2 GP007 on 17 Nov 2007 - 16:28
If it's selling good they'll have sales numbers out quick i'm sure.
#6.3 Jugalator on 17 Nov 2007 - 18:03
^ Agreed, them publicizing that or not will probably be the answer to if there's a problem or just too good news for MS.

Not suprising at all since the Zune is the hands-down best media device on the market. Even the first gen Zune is nicer than the almighty ipod. Also, the title is not misleading at all for any person with at least a 4th grade education!
#8.1 +Axon on 17 Nov 2007 - 18:52
That's because "way too quickly" is grade 4 writing at best.

I'll rewrite his comment for you so you can understand it. I know you people in grade 5 have trouble with comprehension still.

He said that it's NOT hard to understand the title if you managed to pass grade 4, which obviously you haven't.

I then fear, along with my fellow students, for my future patients. Us ruddy med students just can't read, eh?

News flash. MSNBC recently ran with a ZDNET story that labelled the Zune as one of the least attractive tech products ever.

You do realize that Microsoft doesn't own NBC right? MSNBC is a joint venture and has been critical of both of its "namesake" companies in the past.

Also guys, it's not just the Zune 80 that is selling quickly. The Zune 4/8 models are also selling like hotcakes.

You guys are ridiculous. Sure, supply may be shorthanded, but I'm sure Amazon is still getting a big enough amount that would warrant the thread title.

I found my Zune 80 at Walmart but they only had one. Nobody else around had them (BestBuy, Target, Fred Meyers, CompUSA etc..)
#12 BigBoy on 18 Nov 2007 - 03:26
I found an 80 GB at Circuit City. They showed out of stock online however I called and they had two so I picked one up.

Meh to Zune. I'm holding out for the LG Voyager - holds up to 8GB via MicroSD.
#14 daniel_rh on 20 Nov 2007 - 18:15
I just ordered my 4GB Zune, is out of stock too! (at least in the store I use) and now I need to wait 10-15 days
