Also, isn't there a Professional edition anymore?

Yeah there is a pro edition which now includes a testing suite and office edition features
The trial period should be enough to cover even an uninterrupted development in your case, and the trials are full featured retail versions producing projects fully compatible with the "full" versions.
I'm doing this now, but instead because of VS Pro not being released yet and our subscription not covering the full Team Suite Edition that's now RTM. 90 days should be more than enough to cover the time period until I get my hands on a non-trial version.

Funny, because that version (the offline installer / ISO file) is usually the one that works, and the one that have failed for me in the past being the web installer. :p
You may wish to try using a download manager that can resume lost connections easily. Try for example FlashGot if you use Firefox, for a free one, or Free Download Manager for a free standalone one working on other browsers too.
Hmm, maybe it isn't larger then? Or do the install fail? I'm not so sure it's a full DVD in size, just because it's a DVD image. It could be that it's just a bit too large to fit on a CD.

Well, I tried Download Accelerator Plus. It seems to be downloading but, first 25% came down at between 750kbps and 1000kbps but is now crawling at only 5kbps.

Too bad those deals are limited to US people.

So, it looks like SQL Server Express 2008 isn't out yet, but VS2008 will work fine with SQL2005.

We had some problems getting SourceSafe to recognize that a few check-ins had been made (it still thought they hadn't), and it works after applying that patch. It supposedly fixes some Visual Studio 2008 (and also Vista) incompatibilities in SourceSafe.
Also, pay special attention to the Installation Issues section there!
Finally, according to the instructions, one will have to uninstall this SourceSafe update when the final release is made (this update is only a Community Tech Preview).
