Those of you searching in vain for a Zune 80 may not have longer to wait -- Cesar over at Zune Insider has just posted a note about the situation, saying that all the Zunes are ready and shipping, but the Zune 80 won't be widespread for the next 7-10 days.

Apparently Microsoft's sales forecasts called for it to produce more flash Zunes, but the strong reaction from the press and consumers has led to increased interest in the Zune 80 instead -- which seems like the sort of thing you commission sales forecasts for, but hey, live and learn. Anyway, Microsoft's sorted things out and scaled up Zune 80 production, so all of you aching to get 80GBs deep into the social should be good by next week.

I bought the red Zune 8 GB and I love it. All who are waiting for the 80 GB will be pleasantly surprised with the quaility of the devices. Only 2 complaints... the software doesn't make for good meta data editing... I have to do it in WMP. Also there is no graphic equalizer - fortunately the default is near perfect... almost exactly how I would have set it. As for it's strengths - as I said - device quality is high on the list. The menus and squircle that drive them are perfectly implemented. The Zune Pass is absolutely awesome... I've heard more new and awesome music in the past 3 days than in the previous five years... seriously. I would highly recommend a Zune 8 GB to anyone curious and I'm sure the 80 is the same. Can't wait to see where Microsoft goes with these things going forward.

i WAS going to buy a ZUne80 untill i heard the issues with the noise's it has. apprently, the hard drive sounds are transmitted into the headphones so while using IEM's you can heard the hard drive spin up and wirr and click. not cool. i HOPE this is just a firmware bug of some sort (though i doubt it)

Yeah, I've had a Zune for nearly a year and I've never heard of anything like that.

I have a Zune 80 and have no problems with it at all. No noise issues like you are hearing from someone.
