Orange iPhone Contract 49 Euros Per Month

Orange has accidentally leaked the fact that it will provide iPhone contracts in France for 49 euros per month, Reuters reports.

The two-year contract will cost a total of 1,176 euros ($US1,754) when it goes on sale next Wednesday. A one-year (minimum) contract will cost an extra 4.5 euros per month. The 49-euro-per-month contract includes two hours of talk time, 50 SMS text messages, 10 hours of wi-fi connection and unlimited email.

The terms appeared briefly on Orange's website this week, before quickly being removed. Orange will also charge 399 euros for the iPhone purchase.

We have to bear in mind that the recent, sharp US dollar depreciation makes these Euro-denominated prices worse than they appear. Nevertheless, the iPhone and its contracts are not cheap in Europe. We expect there will be similar levels of unlocking in Europe, as has occurred in the US and other markets where the iPhone has not even been released.

And I thought US had the worst plans ever. Makes me think twice about how expensive the AT&T's plan is.

2 hours of talk time a month?

That plan is worthless.

and yet still Apple fan-boys (and girls) will fork out money for this DRM piece of crap , all for the sake of having the latest and greatest Apple product

Now there is a difference between the iPhone (which in my opinion right now is just a suckers bet), and the iPod (which is awesome).

Your fanboyism blinds you my dear padawan.

Au contraire mon ami , if you're happy to tie yourself to Apple's DRM laden apron strings then you my green friend are very much the padawan

Why are you linking DRM to iPod?

iPod is a nice product at what I consider a very reasonable price. Whether or not the user buys from Apple's iTMS and ties themselves to Apple's DRM scheme is entirely up to them. You can use an iPod (and I believe an iPhone) DRM free if you buy the CD's or get the music online from DRMless downloads.

Holy crap, I'm on PAYG (no contract) and I get up to 1000 texts a month for the same price AND I get that as credit, too.

They really are not selling well in Europe. Latest report said they only sold a fraction of what they hoped in UK over the launch weekend.

It makes you wonder what the terms of the contract between Apple and Orange (or T-Mobile for Germany) are to get so outrageous prices ...
(1 reply) #7 JamesNL on 23 Nov 2007 - 17:05
These terms are outrageous... 50 text messages? WTF?

O, this one is nice too: 10 hours of wi-fi connection. WiFi is free. How can they limit that to 10 hours? I hope it should be GPRS/EDGE...
#7.1 jasondefaoite on 24 Nov 2007 - 01:43
Well it can't be GPRS/EDGE, since they are packet switched and would be limited by MB or GB a month, not time. Unless they offering up 10 hours of WAP :p

Actually, he is right, France has to as well, Orange has said so. They were forced to in Germany, but they will release it in France without any injunctions.

GOD!!! and I was thinking we are overcharged in PAK, its like 17-EUROS a month for 25 hours free talk time and 1-EUR for an hour call, and 500 txts free (with the 17-EUR package) and you can buy 200txt a day for like 1-EUR/week... and GPRS is unlimited for 5-EUR
#11.1 Citrusleak on 23 Nov 2007 - 21:41
That plan actually doesn't sound too bad lol.
#12 RAID 0 on 23 Nov 2007 - 23:40
This plan is rape. How many suckers are there in France? I guess we'll find out soon!
#13 lylesback2 on 24 Nov 2007 - 00:31
wow... for that PRICE, they can shove it.

2 HOURS OF TALK TIME WTF is that, I can't survive on 2 hours of talk time, lol. Most people I know use that daily.

10 hours of wifi isn't wifi free? this better be some super wifi to limit me to an internet I OWN in my own house
#14 Croquant on 24 Nov 2007 - 00:55
You know, you can get mp3 phones and smartphones for a lot less that what Apple wants for it's iPhone.... and then you're not locked into Apple's arbitrary carrier restrictions or retarded usage restrictions. (And as an extra added bonus, you can then change the battery... one of the many things you can't do with a iPhone.)

iPhone? iLaugh! iSay No! iGo and iBuy a better phone for less money.

I literally feel outta my chair and rolled around on the floor laughing when i read this.... 2 hours of talk time and 50 sms....all for the equivelant of what...75 USD a month? and if you want to go down to 1 year instead of 2 its an extra 5 euro a month? thats totally funny. any moron in france that signs up for this is an idiot.

I hear there's a lot of them.

What would sell them EVEN better in France, and make it a must have for any frenchie, is to deliver the iphone in WHITE. Thus because of the size and colour, it can double up as a surrender flag.
