Advanced Micro Devices Inc AMD.N Chief Executive Hector Ruiz says he has no plans to step down as head of the microprocessor maker next year.

AMD has in the past two years struggled with market share losses to its far larger rival, Intel Corp INTC.O, in the market for microprocessors. It is banking much of its turnaround on its Barcelona processor, which was launched in September, but has so far been hampered by an inability to ship as many of the processors as it would like.

Ruiz said in an interview with CNBC Europe to be broadcast later this week that President and Chief Operating Officer Dirk Meyer is being groomed to succeed him as CEO.

"Ruiz has to turn the ship around before he can turn over the helm," said Ashok Kumar, an analyst at CRT Capital Group LLC. "He and his team need to focus on executing and delivering what customers and the markets expect."

CEOs are not fired, they are forced to quit.

He'd probably make more money when fired or when he quits than he does now ... all those resignation packages etc.

I think the board should ditch him already. He's the reason they are going downhill fast and he is an arrogant prick. Also I seriously doubt that he would even have a shot in the dark of "turning the ship around" before getting sent packing. The board needs to sell to an investment firm that will just come in and machine gun the entire upper management and inject new blood into this ailing company. This needs to be done quickly as Nvidia is already showing signs of complacency, they should have had the 9 Series out already and because they are pounding ATI's solutions in shear performance they have no reason to due to their massive cash flow. At least Intel has shown no sign of stopping or hiking prices, yet...

A leader checks his ego at the door and all Hector has been doing is whining about Intel; actions speak louder than words. He needs to resign his arrogance and himself from AMD.

Is Hector really as bad as some of you are saying? What is he doing that makes him so bad?

Can you not see how bad AMD is doing?. Jeepers. just look at their stock, it's tanking everyday. Keep this up and they'll be de-listed, which would be bad for competition.
