Steve at Bink.nu asked me to post his "What to expect from Microsoft in 2008" list, so here goes!

The famous Bink.nu "expect list" is back! Just as previous years, I made a list of what releases we can expect from Microsoft. 2005 and 2006 turned out to be pretty accurate, the only things wrong weren't my mistakes but delays or change of plans. Last year I also started to make a list for 2007, because it is a lot of work I never managed to get it done and it never got published. To avoid that I publish what I have now and add stuff over the coming weeks, also based on your feedback!

If you think something is missing or wrong please let me know through a comment or sending an email to bink at bink nu. This list is based on facts, assumptions and wild guesses. Again it is not complete yet and will be updated by your feedback!

Microsoft seriously needs to consolidate its server software into fewer editions! 15 (including separate x86 and x64 editions) is way too much! After all, Apple only uses one version of its Mac OS X Server, which would be flexible enough for a broad range of businesses (although Linux is definitely better suited for servers, IMHO).

The article isn't about Apple's server. Not a lot of large corporations use Xserve...

This is just a wish more than something I know is coming out but I really want a easy to use music program to compete with Garageband. I love using programs like Ableton and Reason but sometimes I just want a easy to use program to play music on for fun. Also I hope they come out with an updated version of Movie Maker that will let you record analog devices

I can't recall the last time MS released an app just because it was cool and fun, so I don't see this happening. But perhaps I"ve become cynical.

Well they do have Movie Maker, Photo Story and Live Writer so I have hope. Live Writer I find especially good, so I do know MS knows how to make a consumer friendly mainstream app and god knows we need an alternative to Garage Band on Windows so they best get busy haha.

I also would like to see more WPF applications, for example a photo booth type of product or an Animation Program that integrates with Paint and showcases what WPF can do.

I'm sorry but why is this on the list?

"Visual FoxPro

we've expected that for a decade now and nothing even related to VFP is happening in 2008... it's dead...
#9.1 bink on 20 Dec 2007 - 19:06
Because FoxPro 10 was previously announced to be released in 2007/2008
