Rumor mill: Wave of Ultimate Extras to come in 2008

Neowin reader nX07 claims that a "friend of a friend who works for Microsoft" has first hand knowledge that a batch of Ultimate Extras will be released in late Q2 or early Q3 of 2008. Below is his post from the forums.

I brought up Vista Ultimate and its "extras", and he told me that because of the ''unexpected" flood of Vista issues Microsoft had to divert it's resources elsewhere and have SP1 cover more than internally-planned. Also, believe it or not, supposedly the Driver and Application Compatibility issues (Which technically was not Microsofts' fault and thus didn't need to do anything) made Microsoft very unhappy since it gave many software/hardware developers more than enough time to prepare, and basically forced Microsoft basically play hound-dog to all those companies.

He mentioned that come Late Q2 to Early Q3 of 2008, Microsoft will have a "wave" of Extras coming covering functionality, aesthetics, and even performance (seems a bit unfair if performance extras will only be for Ultimate users though).

Take it the way you want it, which is probably with a grain of salt, but you heard it first here folks!

Oh, but it is!

No, he's right. It makes absolutely no sense since this is not a negative article.

Please have your joke meter calibrated.

No offense but my joke meter works fine, it just didn't find it very amusing.

Didn't Microsoft learn from Vista: don't promise anything until you deliver.
#6.1 vetmarkjensen on 21 Dec 2007 - 20:03
Except Microsoft isn't promising anything here. It is just a rumor going around.
#7 Phil00 on 21 Dec 2007 - 18:54

On other news, a friend of your friend of my friend who has a friend who works in Microsoft said that Windows 7 will ship along with IE8 separately on Boxing Day.

I declare "SHENANIGANS" on Vista

I for one hope this is true. I payed hard cash for my copy of Ultimate and hope to get what I payed for. I hope to see the funcionality extras come first I have no use for the aestheics or performance upgrades, or at least they are not a pressing matter.
#10.1 ahhell on 21 Dec 2007 - 19:24
Are you high?

Extras are more important than performance upgrades???

Also, you didn't pay for the Extras.

I've been following Vista for quite a while since before releaseand would like to see things like virtual folders and the likes to be added to the system.

Performance is no doubt an issue with some, but not for me.

You're setting yourself up for extreme disappointment. Additions like Virtual Folders (which are actually present - they're just called search folders) aren't going to come through UE

Really I had no idea of that. Alas I never use the search feature. I keep my files pretty well organized. Let's see what the Vista team has for us in 08.

Rumors as news? Come on, Neowin. You can do better than that.
#11.1 Neobond on 21 Dec 2007 - 20:42
Yea shame on us for having an opinion. I'll copy and paste from elsewhere next time and to be safe I'll make sure the news is at least a day old so it is as good as confirmed!

Sorry! thanks for your amazing input!

Have an opinion all you want.. but don't foist it off to us as news.. it certainly isn't "journalism" ( I lol that I use that word here), and just sounds like a literary jack-off.

What are you guys getting worked up about. Plenty, and I mean plenty, of rumours get posted as news on many sites. It's still news, because you're being informed that this rumour is being spread about, and then you can discuss whether you think the rumours are pheasible or bollocks. Though I'll admit this one's a little unbelievable due to the source being a classic 'Friend of a friend' but hey, it still provokes thoughts, and ideas.

I here that Tetris will be one of the Vista Ultimate extras...and a new pong...

I hear that the moon is actually made of cheese after all.
#13 Doli on 21 Dec 2007 - 20:11
Who bought Ultimate just for the extras? Thats just silly. Before Ultimate came out people had a preview of some of the extras and they are good but nothing "WOW" enough to pay that much. You can get some of the 'extras' as free alternates. Only buy Ultimate if you want Home Premium + Business which is great.
#14 Budious on 21 Dec 2007 - 20:41
Rumors make front page news now?
#15 osirisX on 21 Dec 2007 - 20:51
If Apple rumours can make it to the Front Page so can Windows rumours
#16 funkymunky on 21 Dec 2007 - 21:12

#17 signalpirate on 21 Dec 2007 - 21:37
you know ... i think this may be a legit rumor... he didn't say how many new things .. just a "wave"... so i'm guessing its going to be a new wave video for dreamscene... CAN'T WAIT LOL

I used to see Neowin as a reputable source of news. Posting articles like this and the XP SP3 "Refresh" that never where have taken Neowin down a touch in my estimation. I feel you really need to have a look at quality control when it comes to news, as the general nature of news is that it should be verifiable facts, not rumour and hearsay.

Hang on a minute, what am I saying you guys are acting like real journalists now. No real news to report so you make up a good story and stick it on your homepage

The sun/news of the world should consider cutting deals with you guys :p
#18.1 +GreyWolfSC on 21 Dec 2007 - 23:07
The XP SP3 refresh doesn't exist? Funny that I'm running XP SP3 v.3264 that I just downloaded from Microsoft a few days ago. I guess you missed this: http://www.neowin.net/news/main/07/12/18/w...3264-on-connect

Microsoft is only a small company they cant afford it!

.... wait hang on.
#19.2 Patchou on 22 Dec 2007 - 17:08
lol... ignorance is bliss.
#20 The Walker on 22 Dec 2007 - 02:34
So Neowin now thinks that unsubstantiated rumourmongering is actual news?

Neowin, by publishing this all you are doing is wrongfully vindicating Mircosoft, when people should actually be bit-ching at them for not coming up with this stuff (which has already been paid for by the custormers) long before now... you make it sound like a bonus!!!

Stop posting this kind of BS unless you KNOW.

"Reported today.. rumour.. man might have head growing out of his arse"

Can't believe so many are getting worked up over this. It is clearly stated that it is not verified information. I'm glad this was posted, and we'll see what newyears bring.
