In a report released by Privacy International, a human rights group formed in 1990 as a watchdog on surveillance and privacy invasions by governments and corporations, the United States has dropped from an "extensive surveillance society" to an "endemic surveillance society," joining the ranks of Singapore, China, Russia, the UK, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan. The report runs over 1,100 pages and includes 6,000 footnotes, with more than 200 experts from around the world providing materials and commentary. Among its findings, Privacy International notes that, in terms of statutory protections and privacy enforcement, the US is the worst ranking country in the democratic world. In terms of overall privacy protection the United States has performed very poorly, being out-ranked by both India and the Philippines. The highest-ranking countries in 2007 are Greece, Romania and Canada, though all three have only middle of the line rankings; on a scale of 1-5, no countries have a score above a 3.

Absolutely! And if you're lucky, you'll still be a kid in another 23 years!
You sure about that?
You sure about that?
Just don't use the sticky hand.

If they ever take the porn away, that's when Americans will revolt.

Porn is illegal in Pennsylvania to posess or watch if you read the state code...

The state of Pennsylvania is under arrest then.
I wouldn't mind, but, all I got was these beans.

me personally, i wish the US gov would be overthrown and have the us citizens take it back to the basic's of the "constitution"! instead of them just "doing whatever they "FEEL" like"
That's not true...

Ummmm, wrong answer, son. He WAS a producer of Motion Pictures (The Rose, Trading Places).....if you watched the documentary, you would've caught that little nugget. He WAS, as in, he recently passed away.

Son?
Germany dropped from "dark green" (2) to "yellow" (4)
Not that I'm surprised... It's saddening to see what Bin Laden accomplished. He couldn't possibly have dreamt of this himself.
most surveillance is done by private business on their own premises
Just a link to someone else's propaganda? You could at least make a comment to go with it.

reguardless if your right or not, i think it's pretty obvious as to what privacy people (the average citizen) should have... like privacy in there own homes so cops or feds etc just cant kick in there door when they "feel like it" etc etc.
people need to get back to the constitution in general!
p.s. another area (even though it's a little off topic) is people with guns nowadays are basically treated like criminals!
That's because UK was actually already listed as one in the last edition. The news here is that the USA has become a state much like it in this latest edition. I don't think many are surprised either, seeing how the world is turning. It's also not just about the US -- other nations have dropped in ratings in this edition too, but I think US was alone in dropping to the lowest level this year. :-/

How about "Rankings Indicate Worsening Privacy Protection Across World"? It's a paraphrasing of the first key finding in the report, and points the finger everywhere where it should.
Yeah, and it will become even more mind boggling to many people who forgot how the world once looked the further we move into the future, it seems.
Remember that there are many levels of privacy too. For example, today people aren't (in general) monitored where they're moving in a city. That's one form of privacy in public. It's not just about CCTV's, if you were thinking of that, although some countries still have quite strict regulations of where a public CCTV can be aimed or placed.

Slavery was only "abolished" when it became a more expensive system than free enterprise, where people chose to work for a subsistence wage (see any parallels folks?) - forget what the history books tell you they are lies!
The financial system needs a "re-set", George Bush's comments regarding WW3 were not just rhetoric, people will eventually wake up,and fight the New World Order, it will be bloody!
