Whether you love him or hate him, you won't want to miss his last CES Keynote, especially with announcements like Microsoft having sold 100 million licences of its latest OS. I know people tend to be extremely forgetful at times like this and probably frantically yelling at their browser to find them the correct links, so I've taken the liberty to plagiarize from my previous newspost because this is important. The pre-show 2008 International CES keynote address will come at 6:30 p.m. PST Sunday, January 6 NOW. Note: If you can't watch the video, the press release is linked below. Enjoy!

Video: 750k | 300k | 100k

Woot I'm tuned in! Go Bill!

EDIT: My experiences: I thought that video at the beginning was hilarious! The brick thing that tells you when people owe you money and when a prisoner escaped from Folsom looks pretty cool too. The rest= so and so. Where's the Xbox "Ultimate"? Maybe they were hiding it cause HD-DVD took a beating right before the show. Or maybe it's BS.

how do you know more about how many sales MS has than MS does...it may be hard to believe but you have to consider all the PCs sold that had vista pre-installed, the end user may have rolled back to XP but its still a license sold

100 million??? I find that very hard to believe. They must be counting copies that come pre-installed on new PCs.

Pre-installed is OEM, this says retail. That's bought in a box at the store.
#3.2 cork1958 on 07 Jan 2008 - 02:49
I find that impossible to believe, and that's counting OEM's also, whether they count or not!

Why wouldn't I want to miss this? Already have, I think.

Edit:
Obviously, not live. It's stll working.
Yay!!

Err obviously you're new to streaming media.

Nope,
Not new to streaming. Just the way the article is titled, it's like it's supposed to be "live." Like only playing at a certain time.

Nope,
Didn't say a thing about knowing more about MS sales than MS, just said "I find it impossible to believe."

I believe they're counting boxes sold to stores that are still sitting on shelves. Gathering dust.
It's the only logical explanation.
#3.6 +Smigit on 07 Jan 2008 - 10:35
I just watched the video and I don't see where they said it was retail sales. Off my head they said that Vista had 100million users.

ALso a sold license is a license whether it's OEM or retail so I'd say based off the keynote they are including OEM.

Why? They had already sold 60 million by July. I doubt the 100 million is boxed copies -- this figure probably includes corporate licenses which account for a large chunk of Windows' sales.

And it doesn't matter if it's pre-loaded or not, that is still a sale. You can still get XP pre-loaded on machines, but that is usually special order. Go into a store sometime -- all the desktops are running Vista.

Like GreyWolfSC said, the Vista bashing is getting old. I use it daily. There is NOTHING wrong with Vista. It works perfectly fine. Those of you bashing it have likely never used it for more than 5 minutes, if ever.

It's a Microsoft promo, what else would they be using?

He probably saw it as a form of situational irony, as that's about the expectation contradicting the reality. Sure, it misses the target a bit because MS wasn't using Blu-ray drives to present HD-DVD slides on. That would be irony, for example.

It's a Microsoft speech! What else would it cover? Maybe Steve Jobs should start doing his Apple keynotes on the Segway scooter or Pop Tarts or something?

honestly, that keynote sucked, it was a bunch of stuff we have seen from them before or stuff others companies have done (like the windows live presentation, google has done all of that already, and like more then a year ago they did it)

most of the live features have been around a while. and while Google has done "some" of it, I would hardly call it's as intuitive and nicely integrated as MS' stuff.

I actually agree. I can't recall anything new besides Bill gates box thing which they didn't even show and used a pre recorded demo instead of showing what was on his devices screen. Besides that nothing really of much interest. It was more lively than last year but it also lacked any announcements.
#18 Slimy on 07 Jan 2008 - 03:42

These things always seem so awkward and, despite their best efforts in trying to seem cool, seriously uncool.

As for what they showed off, multi touch thing was interesting but the rest seemed pretty mundane and not all that accessible to most people in the real world.

All concluded nicely with a cringe-worthy ending.

But we're talking HD movies here. 25 GB downloads? Or whatever the equivalent bitrate needed would be? MS can only do so much until the bandwidth necessary is common. Besides, I don't want to do the job of burning what I've downloaded. There's not much of a choice to keep them on a drive either at their large file sizes, at least not if you want to keep what you buy.

Last month I've downgraded two PC's from Vista to XP. XP speed is incredible, no annoying Vista's security po-pups and important configuration things are not hidden somewhere deep. I think it will be a while till Vista will run DirectX games at same speed as WinXP.
