Microsoft Corporation is making the $250 Zune 80 available in red with Zune Originals, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Also available until February 14th will be an exclusive collection of 20 new love and sharing themed laser-engraved designs, bringing the total to 65, from four new artist collectives (Colorblok, Friends With You, PSYOP and Studio Play Pretend) as well as Valentine’s Day playlists (such as love jams from the legendary Barry White), on the Zune Marketplace. The new Valentine’s Day series features artwork can be paired with up to three lines of text or, if no graphic is chosen, up to five lines of text. For a limited time, Zune Originals is also offering a gift-wrap option and shipping at no additional charge.

Zune gives consumers a dynamic canvas that is brought to life by the music, pictures, videos and podcasts they fill it with. Zune Originals makes it easy to design a customized player, while wireless sharing and the Zune Social online music community give people new ways to connect,” said Scott Erickson, senior director of product management for Zune at Microsoft.

i still like the black better...just cus red isnt my color, but as a gift for valentines, wowerz i envy those recieving it!!

the one thing i think microsoft HAS to do is offer the zune originals outside of the us....i mean, its damn annoying where you cant even access the site to see the designs, even if ordering TO the us...

and a question, is this a part of product (red) ? like are some of the funds going to the foundation? or is this just microsoft releasing the zune in red as another color?

Rather than gimmicks, shouldn't they focus on making the actual product better? It might give them a better chance of competing against the iPod. You can play with gimmicks and other frivolous extras after you become the market leader.

What do you find lacking in Zune against the iPod?

Well the list can go on for days but I'll name just a couple features it lacks that make me want to throw mines against the wall. Keep in mind that most of the issues I have with it stem from the horrible software and not from the physical device itself.

Actual Device

No Smart Playlists

Squircle is nice but it's really easy to skip a track you're looking for with it.

Zune Software

- Horrible file management/too hard to create folders to seperate files

- Software doesn't re-arrange files when editing playlists in software so often times you'll have duplicate files on your device.

- Cannot drag and drop from desktop to Zune Software

...I can't think of anything else at the moment. Mines is currently packed up in it's box so it's no longer giving me grief. BTW I was comparing to the ipod classic because the Touch is leagues ahead of EVERYTHING on the market at the moment.

I agree with you on the software, it has been a headache. The device itself offers more features than the standard iPod (to me anyways).

The good news is that the Zune dev team knows of the software's shortcomings and will hopefully issue an update that will fix it. Just wish it happens sooner than later.

They've already updated the device FW and software twice since the new ones went out. So it's a sure thing that they'll fix the software.

I just hope they'll hurry up and release them in Europe. They're finally getting them out to Canada soon, how long till the EU sees them though?

yay!. i like MS's work on this. though i kind of wish they were like apple on the color side, i hate it that they release a new color every 2 or so months, why not all at once?

other than that, is this a glossy red like the flash zune or a matte red?
if its glossy, was the red flash zune easily scratched like the iPod Video and Zen Vision:M ?

Great marketing. Microsoft is really doing a good job with marketing the Zune, no doubt.
