Having recently launching its first dual-core Celeron E1000 series CPU, E1200, Intel is ready to launch another family member with a faster core frequency in the second quarter of 2008, according to sources at motherboard makers.

Intel is planning to launch E1400 with a core frequency of 2GHz, 800MHz FSB, L2 cache of 512KB, and maximum TDP of 65W. The chip is based on a 65nm Conroe core and supports Intel 64, XD Bit (Execute Disable Bit) and Speed Step technology. Pricing will be set at US$53 in a thousand-unit tray quantities.

Wow, that's pretty cheap. But being a Celeron, it will probably be only a little bit faster than my AMD 64 3500+ 2.2GHz (single-core).

No, being based on Core 2 Duo, it will eat it for breakfast.

I doubt it. While it is based on the Core 2 Duo the very limited cache memory hurts performance significantly. At best it may come out about even, but in things like games it will probably be a bit slower. Of course if you don't need a top of the line system you can't beat the price.

C'mon! Be for real?!
