- That's exactly the reason I stopped using Facebook. If they returned it to the way it was a year ago, I'd use it again.

- You mean, people are waking up to the fact that sites like Facebook are in the business of making available to others information about you that you don't necessarily want made available to others?
I'm shocked!

- Privacy has nothing to do with it. My Facebook acocunt is locked and only my friends can access my page.
The issue is cyclical demand as with all things in this world. It will level off, but it will still continue to rise in the future since population will continue to increase unless competition comes in or another major trend kick in.

- no doubt at all that Facebook has gone significantly downhill

- Facebook used to be fun. But it has degraded into a MySpace wasteland of garbage applications and impossible to navigate profiles. It is much more about answering pointless quizzes and finding out what color/lover/celebrity/season/tv star/flower a quiz says you are and much less about actually networking.
Huge potential + garbage applications = MySpace #2

- Every industry has this "burst bubble" syndrome. Novelty dies off - then those things worth staying stay, others die.
Personally? I see Facebook staying if they sort it out.

- Come to think of it, I do use facebook less and less, but it's because of the applications. they need tighter regulations on what is allowed, and what isn't.
They have the most pointless applications that are just annoying, and take away from photo albums, comments, and other important things i wanna see what friends are doing, not what junk my friends put on their pages

- Facebook needs to kill applications ASAP!
Only have a few Facebook backed Apps. 99% of apps are junk.
Facebook has to see this in their numbers, it's going to start hurting their bottom line soon.

- The stupid quiz things are driving me nuts as well. I think that has been a big problem there, it is becoming MySpace. I will admit though, that I have not done that much in the social network sites. Have any of you guys tried out Pownce?

- Perhaps I'm antisocial but I never saw the novelty of these sites. Why on earth would anyone want to put their personal information online to share with people? From what I've seen it's mostly people who are desperate for attention or kids doing it because it's supposed to be the cool thing right now. If I want to share things with friends I do it in real life, not on a web site. I've seen a few of the sites, all full of pictures of the person and their favorite music blaring, all screaming "look at me!". Can't wait for this stupid fad to die.

That is the most accurate description of facebook I have seen. -

- I disagree entirely. I don't use Facebook to make it a friends list contest. Not sure who you know who does that; maybe we just don't know the same people. I use it to keep in touch with people I don't see very often, if ever, since not everyone has MSN (or doesn't use it very often).
Oh, and you can't have music playing in the back of Facebook, that's Myspace, so I'm not sure what you were looking at.
Anyone, this doesn't surprise me at all. I used to use it way more often, but then it just gets boring and it's a more check-your-messages thing once in a while. That's mostly all I use it for, the messaging part.

- I use facebook to keep in touch with and share photographs with friends I already have, and those I used to know from my past but have since forgotten (from school, etc). However all the apps spoil it for me. Every time I log on now I find I've got about 50 invitations to be bitten by werewolves and vampires, to have my movie knowledge tested and x number of other crap that I hate. I wish facebook would add a "Block ALL Third Party Applications Unless Explicitly Allowed" option.

- Like some, I never saw the attraction to social websites. I was just on the phone with someone and said I'm probably among the minority of people around my age that do not a facebook, myspace or anything else.

ROFL. That's the best part. MS also paid off Digg to have Digg use MS's advertizing service over Google's. Digg is going to go the way of the rest of these sites too.
Forums and blogs are what will remain. Who needs a limited page on a network, when you can have your own site? Even Youtube will lose its exclusivity. The one thing we have to watch out for is if the telecoms and the cable industry somehow manage to sabotage net neutrality.

- They definitely did not come to college campuses when looking at numbers for facebook...still used more than ever here, from what I see.
I never really thought of bebo as being that popular to begin with, and myspace is...well it's myspace and that's about enough said.

- Only those who meaninglessly fill their pages with apps are getting bored.
For the rest of us, Facebook is a social tool - not a toy. -

Exactly.
I have friends all over the world because I travelled a lot and moved from one country to another. Before there was Facebook, it was pretty challenging to maintain contact with everyone. And oh god, how annoying it was to send the same birthday pictures to my friends only to find out that half of the emails would bounce back. Nowadays, I upload new pics only once and all my friends can see them.

- what annoys me is the spam apps, if i want to do a quiz i will but i wont spam 20 of my freinds to do it too just to see my results... i would rather not get any results than become a spammer, some of the apps are OK the rest just annoy the crap out of me.. and get rid of the F&*kin invitations.. if i want somethign i will add it. i pretty much just use it to keep in touch with people. although generally i do that via email anyway..
oh yeah and those stupid F&*(in GITS that post the ctrl-f4 or alt-f4 posts that allegedly show you who looks at your profile..... if you do that learn about windows shortcuts.. all your doing is closing the page!!!! -

I can't believe people still do this. Back when I first got a cell phone people would call me left and right for help with their computers and I'd ask "Did you try the Alt+F4 shortcut?" and it would close whatever application and I'd tell them "problem solved!" then hang up.
Yea I wish I could still get away with that. I work at a call center now...
I guess that is probably karma, heh.

- I have 55 requests to do something to someone. I'm just going to continue ignoring them until something breaks. I wonder if there's a world record for amount of Facebook application requests.

The average length of time users spend on all of the top three sites is on the slide. Bebo, MySpace and Facebook all took double-digit percentage hits in the last months of 2007. December could perhaps be forgiven as a seasonal blip when people see their real friends and family, but the trend was already south.
