Cheers kraized for this post in our forums, he has found a manufacturer selling an iPhone clone called the "HiPhone". Not too much unlike the Chinese clones that were cropping up shortly after the iPhone became widely available. Anyway click Read more for a run down of features this clone boasts; and a couple of pics.

I can see these guys getting sued pretty fast.

You have to wonder why someone would develop a clone so good, and not just make it different enough so it is legitimate.

I bet it is a genuine iPhone that has been altered slightly for this prank.
#2.1 Neobond on 07 Feb 2008 - 15:00
An expensive prank considering you can buy it for a lot less than an iPhone

This just goes to show that you're paying extra just for the Apple name.....

It actually has more (and better) features than the iPhone.

Actually, This seems to be the DigitalRise D800i HiPhone... from the product page, it seems to have a removeable battery, memory card slot and dual sim slots hence the term 99% iPhone... Also I think someone may have mentioned it is a little thicker.. probably due to the removeable battery.. More D800i HiPhone Clone Pics Here

your paying extra for an apple phone that even does LESS than the cheaper clone...

i'd say 120% apple clone, the 21% is for all the extra features

so i actually ended up getting the D800i Clone from ChinaGrabber.com (it was a couple bucks less)... very impressed with phone quality... one minor thing is this version only have one sim slot instead of two as stated in the manufacturer's specs... still a good deal on phone....

They have different laws in China, and are a lot more lax about counterfeits etc. So I can see them getting away with this.

I would like to know what the software is like - I am sure it is nothing like the iPhone.
#3.1 Shadrack on 07 Feb 2008 - 15:22
unless they figured out a way to copy the iphone software and put it on this device. it is hard to tell from the videos.
#4 +kraized on 07 Feb 2008 - 15:10
Found them being sold on eBay.
#5 X@vier on 07 Feb 2008 - 15:17
I want one, just to have around the house to do my internet and calling here and there, doesn't look too bad.

Doesn't the Square on the Home Button look off center though? Or is it just me.
(1 reply) #7 Kushan on 07 Feb 2008 - 15:27
Holy crap, I am IMPRESSED. I've seen (and used) all kinds of dodgy Chinese knockoffs in my time but this has got to be by far the most impressive one I've ever seen. It seems to be a complete clone of the iphone and then some, it's almost as if it's what the iphone SHOULD have been AND it's at a price that undercuts most high-end smartphones on the market.
I'll bet the touch screen isn't as advanced and such, but even so, I am sorely tempted...
#7.1 neo_neon on 09 Feb 2008 - 03:35
i found one here for only $209.99 shipped... D800i HiPhone Clone planning to get one so will let u all know how it goes...

You'd look like COOOOOL DUDE with one of these!

If they can pull off selling it for this cheap.. why can't Apple if its so close to the real thing? The only thing I can think of is initial R&D.. Production/labour/materials would basically be the same since I believe the iPhones are manufactured in China and only designed in California..

Plus the iPhone took 5 years of R&D before Apple got it to market. That doesn't come cheap.
#10 RuudJacobs.NET on 07 Feb 2008 - 15:30
This sure is an impressively made clone which without hesitation will be sold LOTS of times before the lawsuit starts...

Nice looking clone, but it looks like its missing the 3.5mm headphone jack
#11.1 +TCLN Ryster on 08 Feb 2008 - 00:09
Looks like the headphones use some kind of mini-usb style connector, just like the HTC Touch. Although the iPhone 3.5mm connecter wasn't 100% standard either, was it? Wasn't it sunk into the casing to prevent the use of any other headphones than ones sold by Apple? This clone is no different in that regard.
#12 EXO242 on 07 Feb 2008 - 15:36
Does it even work with iTunes or a Mac?

I told ya the fab plants would start selling iPhones off the line under Apple's nose.
(1 reply) #16 echo on 07 Feb 2008 - 16:02
imma buy one this weekend and do a full review on it when i get it. you can barely see anything in that review. It would be cool to have as a toy.

it is only 2gb memory compatible because t-card only is up to 2gb (that to me is it's only draw back, and the lack of dock station if that is an issue to you). and it's not a standard 3mm jack, nor is the iPhone. It looks a samsung connection port.

Bit of an expensive toy at $239 USD.
#17 +chorpeac on 07 Feb 2008 - 16:05
To me it looks thicker than the iPhone. Better not get updates or take this into sensitive areas...who knows what data is being leaked out of this.
(1 reply) #18 Kayle12 on 07 Feb 2008 - 16:53
Notice the Apple Logo when it boots up? It's probabily hacked iPhone firmware
#18.1 RAID 0 on 07 Feb 2008 - 21:51
Exactly what I was thinking.

Half the price and almost all the features? iPhone is a rip off.
(1 reply) #19 dangel on 07 Feb 2008 - 16:54
I'm not buying this until it costs twice as much and locks me into a crappy 24 month contract.

That's about as embarassing as pulling out a legitimate iPhone and showing it to somebody.

You can see this thing lags like hell when playing music and upon starting applications. Zooming pictures with 2 fingers is crap as well.

Really, if you want an iPhone, then get it. Spending money on a half-assed clone is just stupid.
#24.1 RAID 0 on 07 Feb 2008 - 19:17
"Spending money on a half-assed clone is just stupid."

That depends on who you ask.
#25 MulletRobZ on 07 Feb 2008 - 19:19
I wonder if this would work in Canada! But damn, that's pretty good for a knock-off version of the iPhone!
(1 reply) #26 Xero on 07 Feb 2008 - 19:27
What the hell is this? Your actually trying to convince people to buy a cheap knockoff. This site has gone to **** if this crap is getting to the front page.

The news post doesn't suggest that you go buy one. It's just to let you know that this is out there. Or did you want some cheese, too?

The whole online store looks dodgy to me. A Hotmail account for support? Shoes? Wanna buy some hot-off-the-line unauthorized merchandise?
#27 hapbt on 07 Feb 2008 - 20:01
Yeah but what's really important is, does the hiphone copy files locally faster than the iphone? does it shut down faster?
if so, then im sold!
#28 LipSmacker on 07 Feb 2008 - 20:16
Some things you just don't cheap out on, and in this case, I'd say that's definitely true. Remember you get what you pay for.
#29 frostedfrank on 07 Feb 2008 - 20:43
no wifi??
#30 Buu on 07 Feb 2008 - 21:11
Looks pretty crap to me. The fact that you still need the stylus yet it is designed so large for use with a finger..
#31 simon360 on 07 Feb 2008 - 21:41
Looks useless to me. First of all, the 3 pillars of the iPhone are the phone, iTunes, and Safari. They don't have iTunes, only a cheap mimc version of it (also means it's lacking CoverFlow, which is a nice feature for people like me who have album art for their music). They don't have a good web browser (Safari is the best mobile browser, hands down), and while the phone is pretty much there, they're missing one of the coolest things about the iPhone: visual voicemail.

And then there's the massive screen lag, and teh fact that the music player seems to slow the thing to a crawl. And if you thought the iPhone keyboard was bad, looks like this one is 10 times worse (plus, I doubt it has the auto correction, at least not as good as the auto correction that Apple provides). And it's made of plastic, as opposed to the iPhone, which is metal, meaning it'll probably crack. That backing definitely doesn't look sturdy to me, compared to aluminum.

If it's not a genuine Apple product, I don't want it.

I didn't know Apple makes cars or bikes. Shampoo? Shoes? Clothing? I could go on.. but I think you get my point.

#35 Optix Illusion on 08 Feb 2008 - 02:00

That looks like a good clone of the iPhone ...

Apple should have made the iPhone like that with removable battery and sim cards.

Maybe they might try something like that in a new product release .. ?
#38 hardgiant on 08 Feb 2008 - 17:05
I like the washing dishes sound in the background.
#39 evo_spook on 08 Feb 2008 - 23:13
I wouldn't buy it, but it has some good ideas Apple should also have, two sim cards, removable battery, memory card slot.
