- Would be interested to know if anyone on XP SP3 RC2 has seen any improvements or not, since I am on Vista now..

- (Steven said @ #1.1)Vista has this stuff already.
I believe he wants the information in general. -

- I'm running it. It didn't really help the boot time by maybe a few seconds, although my computer now shuts down about 75% faster after installing SP 3 RC2. Loading programs seems to take about the same time as it did with SP2. The only thing I'm having a problem with is BOINC; it doesn't want to run all night. I'll wake up and check the status, and the program would be closed. This never happened with SP2. Maybe I should do more tests and give a better review?

- Welcome to 4 month old news. These features for XP SP3 have been known for ages and didn't just "show up" in RC2. The title is pretty misleading in that area suggesting RC2 improves networking with new features while the older builds didn't whereas the reality is all these features have been around since the start of the beta.

- I noticed they installed the updated version of Remote Desktop Connection that came with Vista SP1. I was very pleased to see this made it into XP SP3 too.

- Actually that really irked me. I'd deliberately not downloaded that as I just didn't like how the new Remote Desktop client worked. I applied SP3 and was a bit annoyed when I fired up MSTSC to be greeted with the Vista style Remote Desktop client

Whats wrong with it? Works just the same for me but now I can see the saved username it will attempt to use from a previous session.

- Things like WPA2 support have been available as an update to XP SP2 for months... Maybe since 2005.

- Is this stuff coming to XP X64?

I doubt it, XP X64 is based on Server 2003 kernel. Only if they update W2K3 will you see these updates on x64 XP. -

- As Marshalus pointed out.... Windows XP 64 bit, was born from Windows 2003. Service packs related to W2K3 apply to WinXP 64.

Wrong. The Link posted is for the x86 version of SP2 for Win Server 2003, which is NOT compatible with XP64. However, this link > Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 for x64 Editions < is the correct one, and it does have XP64 listed, as it is the x64 version of SP2. -

That service pack is for Windows Server 2003 32-bit, not Windows x64. -
#10.7 Posted by xMorpheousx416 on 23 Feb 2008 - 04:39
- Removed the link..... even though as picky as some just love to be, ITS THE SAME DAMN SERVICE PACK.
Regardless of 32 or 64 bit, SP2 for Server 2003, IS the service pack for Windows XP 64.

- I have this installed on my Dell laptop, and it seems to every 15 or 20 mins my wireless light ( wireless indicator light ) goes off and I get disconnected from my home wireless system, I have to restart to get my connection back, which I guess it most likely it's driver issue.

- Hi,
have you been able to reslove this issue..
if not could you please send us the details of the wireless NIC and the driver installed on your machine to analyse the issue...
Below are the steps that you need to follow to get these details..
1. Double click on the wireless network Icon on the system tray
2. U will be able to see the wireless network status window
3. Click on the properties Button and it will open the “wireless connection properties” window
4. On the general tab of this window click on the configure button
5. A new window will open and on the new window click on the Driver tab..
6. There you will find the Driver version information
Also we would need the network logs which would help us in analysing the issue..
Please follow the below simple steps to get these logs..
* You need to have the administrative rights to get the logs.
* Run the command "Netsh ras set tracing * enabled" in a command window
* Reproduce the problem
* Run the command "Netsh ras set tracing * disabled" in a command window
* The logs will be at %windir%\tracing..
Please send the details and logs to: sunilrao@microsoft.com
Thanks a lot for helping us in shipping the best quality..
Regards,
Sunil

Service Pack 3 adds several networking and security improvements, and compatibility with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 security credential providers. It also incorporates features previously available individually as separate updates, such as Micorsoft Windows Imaging Component (WIC), Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3.0, and Wi-Fi Protected Access 2. To view a full list of the new features available in this pack, click here. You can also download Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 2 via Windows Update. Previous release candidates of SP3 must be removed before making the update.
