Google pips Microsoft to UK super-brand crown

Google is the number one business brand in the UK, according to the latest Superbrands survey. The search giant came in ahead of the BBC, The Financial Times and British Airways, but will draw the greatest pleasure from pipping arch rival Microsoft to the top spot.

Apple, meanwhile, has dropped out of the top 10 despite the arrival of the iPhone, Apple TV and MacBook Air. The survey, which was drawn up by senior business leaders, canvassed the opinions of 1,500 professionals.

I don't think Google have ever said or even implied Microsoft are their 'arch rivals', they just seem to get on with their own thing...

Google and Yahoo are rivals. Microsoft is irrelevant.

Google and Microsoft are complimentary, not substitutes (as an arch rivalry would indicate).
