Pakistan says it has lifted a ban on YouTube, after the website removed cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, adding that an earlier worldwide outage sparked by its actions was unintentional.

Telecommunications officials said that the popular website was up and running again in the conservative Muslim nation after YouTube removed "highly profane and sacrilegious footage" that was offensive to Islam.

"We have issued instructions to all internet service providers that YouTube should be unblocked as the specific content has been removed by the website," Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) spokesman Khurram Mehran said.

Does this mean if you want to get YouTube banned, make cartoons of Mohammed?

That said, how do we know Microsoft isn't behind the cartoons in an attempt to strike back at Google or something of the like?

So all I can say is, what makes Islam so special?

Well, lets see....
Since most/all IT jobs have been outsourced to India and Pakistan borders India and both are Muslim countries and Pakistan is probably the worlds largest population of Muslims, that since it offended Pakistan (muslim), India (I.T.) flipped the switch.
Now if YouTube content and servers where located on US territory, then this might not have occurred

It would be like some one making a cartoon of "North America Sucks" or "Canada Sucks" or "US Sucks" or "Mexico Sucks", and we just shut of internet access because we were offended

Thats my goofy point of view on this

If there are some countries that we would be better off being cut from the net permanently, Pakistan would be one of them.

The amount of trolling idiots from there is astounding, not to mention the "HI R U GRRL 18? ASL? I FROM PAKI! I HAVE BIG XXX" that frequent every single chat and IRC channel I've seen.

Then im glad that decision is not upto you to cut pakistan off the internet. And no i doubt they would be better off being cut.

SPAM is a major problem it affects almost everyone yet i dont see people saying America and China should get cut off from net as thats where it mostly originates from.

As for you claim about trolling idiots well that could be said about almost every country, you do get the odd few idiots here and there, i find it strange how people can only notice people from countries other than thier own.

The difference is, Muslims don't take offence in anyway when it comes to Islam, and we will always stand shoulder by shoulder should someone or something offend.

And no! That does not mean suicide bombing, beheading or other mis-informed and ignorant thoughts. Standing up in what you believe does not always mean violence, especially where Islam is concerned, that is unless you follow the media.

This is a very extensive topic and very fragile.

Pakistan is able to shut down traffic to YouTube! How can this possibly happen? What could they do if they had more control of the internet? This is exactly why the United States must keep basic control of the Internet.

If you want to censor the internet you shouldn’t have it in your country, period.

If Pakistan has the ability to shut down a major US website that ability should be taken away. If that means cut the cables to pakistan then do it.
