Fujitsu Limited today announced its new MHZ2 BJ series of 2.5" hard disk drives that feature a rotational speed of 7200 RPM and capacities up to 320 GB Sales of the new series will begin at the end of June 2008. The new series is designed for use in high-performance PCs, such as high-end notebook computers and compact desktops.
The MHZ2 BJ series requires only 2.3 W of power for read and write operations, ranking it among the most power-efficient drives in its class. The series is one of many new products announced as part of Fujitsu's Green Policy Innovation initiative, unveiled in December 2007 to promote energy-efficient products and services as a way to help customers lower their ecological footprint.
As PCs offer an increasing number of sophisticated functions, there is an increasing need for high-capacity hard disk drives with improved processing capabilities.
But with growing worldwide concern over global warming and other environmental problems, there is also a demand for hard disk drives that consume less electricity.

i know i sure would take the 1TB for desktop anyday over a smaller 320GB for laptop..... cause someone correct me if im wrong, but does anyone really need 320GB of storage for a 'laptop' ? .... i guess alot of people who dont own desktop but download alot of stuff... maybe those but it seems like it would be just all around cheaper/better to get big storage for a desktop pc.
These days I'm right behind you. I have packs of external drives for storing raw data, sure, but I don't carry them around with me. My laptop has a 120 GB drive and I have about 20 GB free at any given time. An overwhelming majority of the space is taken up by applications rather than personal data. I'm not desperate enough to shell out tons of money for a new laptop HD (especially if it's "only" 320 GB) but I'm certainly envious of people whose laptops have even a 160 GB drive!
Same here. I only own a laptop. Most people I know only own a laptop or primarily use their laptop while their desktop collects dust. So for me the release of this hard drive is great news. This will definitely be the hdd of choice for my next laptop.
BTW - Global warming official ended 8 years ago, now wer are dealing with global cooling, so what does a little heat hurt?

No, i live in the USA, and climate data shows the earth temp peaked almost 8 years ago.
