According to DigiTimes AMD has improved its yields of its RV670 GPU. RV670 chips, are fabbed under Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC's) 55nm process.

With the increase in yield come significant cost benefits which should lower the price of 3xxx series graphics cards making AMD more competitive against Nvidia.

The company is also planning to launch a second dual-GPU solution, the Radeon HD 3850 X2, in May, to compliment the already shipping 3870 X2. With an expected price tag of US$299-379. The Radeon HD 3850 X2 will support 512MB to 1GB GDDR3 or 1.8GHz DDR memory and will be positioned as a competitor to Nvidia's GeForce 8800GTS

This comes at an important time for AMD with major desktop product announcements due in the next few weeks, to put them back on par with Intel, and Nvidia taking the performance crown with its own Dual-GPU based 9800 GX2. It certainly seems that AMD return-to-profit strategy might be turning the corner after a disappointing end to ’07

Cheers to ATI. The market needs a competitor to the 9600GT. Competition keeps prices down for the consumer, so bring on the cheaper 3800s.
