CNet Networks says it is laying off 120 employees, or 4.4% of its workforce, as part of an effort to streamline the online media company while generating more content for its news and entertainment sites. All the layoffs will involve employees in the U.S., according to a document CNet filed Wednesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. CNet's suite of popular Web sites commands a huge worldwide audience, but its investors have long complained the company's profits haven't kept pace with the growth of Internet advertising. The company indicated in the filing that the layoffs would be effective immediately and cost at least $3.8 million in severance pay, outplacement and other expenses.

"generating more content for its news and entertainment sites"

Oh goody! More pointless anti-Microsoft bias, just what the Internet has been longing for

Hopefully they just laid off just the people who post the most lamest and biased reviews.

i'm not even surprised, CNET was one of the main technology go to sites back in the day, but in the last couple of years they have become irrelevant. The content is lacking, the video reviews are pointless, and the actual reviews tend to be biased. You can find much better content from the technology blogs springing up all over the internet, unboxings, real life reviews...and real hands on views of the products you want to buy.

Unless CNET changed with the times, they're soon going to become a distant memory of the past.

And when grammar and spelling were respected more than they appear to be today.

I think the best way for someone to review a product is to actually use it yourself. Obviously you can't afford to do that with everything you're interested in, but I'd rather take the chance on my own than read a column of someone else's opinions about them.

Just Google for "Jeff Gerstmann" if you want to know more about what kind of direction CNET is going.

Anyone remember from the 90's the TV Show they used to have?

C-Net news.com or something like that, Ryan Seacrest got started on that show, I'm pretty sure it was broadcast Sunday mornings on Sci-Fi channel way back in like 98-99

CNet is a majorly biased company... personally I wish they'd just disappear completely... they ruined some of the better sites out there like download.com...
