Microsoft has in Japan, combined Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live OneCare in one eye-popping hot pink box.

As a special promotion for the Japanese market, an upgrade version of Windows Vista Home Premium is bundled with a year’s subscription of Windows Live OneCare and a copy of a Vista tips and tricks book. The pink flowers are called sakura (cherry blossoms) and this is being released for the Sakura or ‘Cherry Blossom’ season, which is a BIG event in Japan.

Heh was just going to say the same thing.

How could you NOT notice this when creating the box.
#2.3 bluarash on 30 Mar 2008 - 20:36
Not to get too much in depth on this discussion, but the first time I saw the box... it actually looked like a box of pantiliners, not tampons. Maybe Microsoft will dispense service packs of their OS on 80mm DL DVDs wrapped like a condom.

#3.8 +sLm4ever on 30 Mar 2008 - 06:29
it wasn't PORTUGAL nor Japan .... it was Saudi Arabia
#3.9 brianshapiro on 30 Mar 2008 - 17:48
pink is one of those colors that because its synthetic and not a natural color it can be garish to use in fashion, but has in the past been overused in women's fashion because young girls are obsessed with flowers and ponies and things that are pink and purple. Just like boys are obsessed with dinosaurs and cars. It looks as bad on women as men. The only men daring enough to wear pink have a "chic" fashion sense that aligns with the scary sense of style that young pony-obsessed girls wear.

of course, salmon pink is a lot better than hot pink

What the **** are you saying?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hello_Kitty

"Hello Kitty (ハローキティ, Harō Kiti?) is the best-known of many fictional characters produced by the Japanese company Sanrio. Hello Kitty is a very simply drawn character who was created in 1974 by the Sanrio Company in Tokyo, Japan. Registered in 1976, Hello Kitty is now a globally known trademark."

Yes, god forbid the use of color if it's not drab and "tasteful" like beige.

Windows bundled with a Microsoft anti-virus? Let's start a raffle on how much Microsoft would have to pay for antitrust fines on this here in the States and Europe. Let me start: 200 billion?
#17.1 +TCLN Ryster on 29 Mar 2008 - 22:33
You're right that this would likely end up with an anti-trust case brought against Microsoft by the greedy anti-virus vendors... however I am of the FIRM belief that Microsoft has a right to protect it's operating system from being infected with malware if it so chooses... just because the operating system hasn't protected itself in the past is not a barrier to it beginning to do so.

Mediocre product in a flashy box hasn't exactly done much for Mac sales, so why should Vista be any different?

Oh of course not. Apple is simply going through the most revolutionary stage in its history and pulling the rest of the underachieving industry with it, with Leopard as the premiere OS.

#21.3 C_Guy on 01 Apr 2008 - 14:28

There's one important point about cherry blossoms that is often overlooked. BEER!! Yes, beer, well beer and sake.

Hanami is an annual event which literally means "Flower Viewing" but it's more like western tail gate BBQs. Every park in Tokyo fills with crowds of Tokyoites who say they're "viewing flowers" but are actually just there to eat and get drunk with their friends.

So to all of you who say that Japan and their cherry blossoms are girly I invite you to take part in a hanami party and see just how girly it is.

It's really sad to see so many people think this is "gay" or like "feminine products" or whatever (I admit this first thing I thought of was Hello Kitty)

But what a lot of people seem to be forgetting is they would never, ever see this in America because it was specifically geared for a different culture and different market. If people bothered to read the article they might have stumbled on this: "The pink flowers are called sakura (cherry blossoms) and this is being released for the Sakura or ‘Cherry Blossom’ season, which is a BIG event in Japan."

This explains the design and why this design could be a big hit in Japan.

Grow up a little and realize that what appeals to other cultures may not appeal to you but that doesn't make it gay, crazy, stupid, or anything else.
