Thanks to one of our very own eagle eyed members kevpan815 we have spotted an interesting page on Microsoft.com regarding XP's support life cycle.
The page states General Availability Date of XP SP3 is 31/03/2008 meaning it may well have RTM'd already but the software giant has not made an official public announcement.
With rumours that Microsoft has delayed XP SP3 to encourage sales of Vista we'd hope to see Microsoft give an official response to this as soon as possible. We will update you once we get a response from the company.
Update: Microsoft has also posted a Windows XP Service Pack 3 Overview whitepaper.
Microsoft has confirmed that the final version of Windows XP SP3 is still on target to be released the first half of calendar year 2008 but has refused to confirm an RTM date.

Believe it or not, this pack actually makes Windows installation process few minutes faster than that with plain SP2 on it.

maybe wrong? just seems weird
perhaps the question is HOW recently this page was updated... when the early builds of SP3 were surfacing (which could explain a working ETA that may not have been accurate)? or are we talking a mere few days ago (in which case this date should be fairly concrete)?
They are delaying for one reason, they are very happy for people to download dozens of patches. They will eventually release SP3, and patch any bugs in their software or service pack etc. this is their M.O. for all the years I've been using their software. I gave up patching XP after SP2 (Office 2000 at SP1) One user I found recently was running Win2k SP3!. None of our users have managed to destroy their systems of the network (ISA2000 firewall). No amount of delays will make me (re)install Vista on those PC's bought with Vista. Personally I'll stick to WinXP for the foreseeable future. SP3 when it comes, better be good ;-)

You're calling MS's behaviour irrational?
You say you stopped patching after SP2? Why? Surely that's way out there on the irrational scale.
And so what if someone had Win2000 SP3? What does that prove? It's not really that old.
Unless you can provide a credible source (no Beta people

What are you talking about?
Waiting for a service pack is like being with a beautiful woman, you have to be patient, gentle and treat it with respect and kindness.
Thats means quit whining and wait dam it!

if you will remember, its been 4 years since we last had a service pack
i think we have been patient enough

What if we're not interested in women?
Um... nope, no Mac here...
So...

Double So: This document has been re-released several times by MS. It first came out last year. The fact that it has appeared again is meaningless.
besides, april first is in the past too, we have april second by now......
Reason 13-Apr-2010 Support ends with SP2 seeing that “Support ends 24 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product's support lifecycle, whichever comes first.”

close but no cigar, PeterUK. If you read this Tech ARP article:
http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=521
earliest release of WinXP SP3 RTM is scheduled to be released in the 2nd half of April 2008.
I think we might see it in the week of April 20-26.
maybe you should get a job as a tv news reporter, GreyWolfSC. Rumors aren't always news and sometimes they're a bunch of baloney. BS to be exact, IMO.
"Although service packs have, until now, been cumulative, installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 requires that the computer must at least be running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 installed. [42] Whether this also affects slipstreaming is not clearly known. Also, Microsoft has not provided any information on whether SP3 will also contain all the previously released updates for Windows XP Media Center Edition and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition including .NET Framework versions 1.0 and 1.1 which are included in these Windows XP SKUs."
WTF!!
1. It HAS to be install also on Windows XP RTM.
2. MS HAVE to service XPMCE and XP Tablet PC, all parts included.
If they don't, they're going to further damage their reputation in my eyes.

Just a note re: slipstream of SP3, in this thread over at M$ forums a M$ rep posted
There have been several threads there discussing SP3 "integration" and M$ as usual has done a phenominal job of weaving and dodging where a clear cut answer was wanted for consumer end-users position. From what I gather(and my head usually hurts after sifting thru those forums), SP3 will be able to be slipstreamed but there just won't be any support from M$ for it.
Also, IE7 will not be in SP3. I have no idea which version of WMP they are including.
It's just a big stall tactic to get people to switch to Fista. Personally I could care less at this point. They could give me Fista for free and I wouldn't use it. I use XP for gaming and the rest of the time I run linux. Any of my friends/family whom I have built systems for and/or do tech support for already know that I won't be supporting Fista. Most of them are looking at linux as well.

There is no confirmed info and its not an exclusive hence the topic title is a lie and shouldnt be on the main page. Starting to lose faith in neowin recently.
man, you'd think SP3 was some hot babe or something.
False, no 32 bits Operating System on earth can address more than 4 GB of memory, except some special distro of linux that are able to map up to 64 GB of memory via a difficult and innefficient way to map memory. Even with the fact that a 32 bits Operating System is able to map "in theory" 64GB of memory using a special algorithm, an application can't use more than 4 GB of total memory by itself on a 32 bits OS. This fact is immutable.
Get a 64 bits OS.

I guess you are right. I'm not talking about 4gb memory for a single application though. I was saying that if I have 4gb ram with windows 2003, I can actually see 4gb in My Computer and Task Manager but only 3-3.7 gb in XP. So i guess my question is will XP SP3 allow me to see 4gb?
We'll see what happens in due course, however.
Just wait...christ you're obviously livelong MS customers so you're used to it....I know I am.
